Title: Just a Thank You
Post by: dr.seuss. on Friday, January 20, 2012, 10:09:32 AM
Just wanted to say thx for keeping the game alive and restoring my honor.
Hopefully there will be some West Coast USA servers popping up soon so I can have a good ping.

Yeah I have played some trippy maps on there. Not many people yet but hopefully that will improve.
Does it just cycle the mAAp maps or does it do the original maps as well?

I think current we can change it to normal maps but on the next release of maap 7 it will be maap only.

It only cycles through mAAp right now but admins have the ability to change it to normal maps. But, when mAAp 7 comes out, I'm removing regular maps except for insurgent camp, I think that's the default fallback map and if it can't find it, the server just loops a restart.

Actually I was just looking and it seems the only non mAAp map I can load up is IC.
All the other maps seem to load up IC automatically...althougth I only tried Recon and Urban Assault.

You must be entering the map names wrong then. Let me know a map and I'll change it if you want but after 40 minutes or so, it will switch back to mAAp if nobody has joined it.

Yep your absolutely right...FLS Assault loaded up fine.
I can't count higher than 10 and I can't spell more than 3 letters I guess...lol
Works fine...shame your thinking of getting rid of the classics though.

Thx again.

Hehe :) Personally, I've put quite a bit of work into mAAp and now that I've fixed a lot of issues on Pipeline and other maps, I want to specifically promote mAAp. I don't feel bad about it either, there's other US servers popping up but there's not as many mAAp servers.

Every server on our system is a mAAp server, an admin just needs to change the map.

Yea, I get what you mean. Looking at the list, there's only 4 mAAp servers out of 37 and one is mine. I want to advertise mAAp and make people wonder what it is and want to try it out.

*EDIT*
Also, my server is the only one out of 6 US servers that is hosting mAAp.

No problem I appreciate the opportunity to play at all. :)
I like a couple of the mAAP's that I've played, although I hope they come out with some long range ones as well.

I like hunting more than run and gunning...hehe

Feel free to give suggestions on how maps can be improved. You can also submit ideas or even submit 2.8 maps to be converted to 2.5 :)

I'm turning glass kill house into double assault and added an objective. Except it's a small map, so not much stalking lol.

Interdiction :3 i luv that map. Even without bots (it is a complex map though, and heavy too).

Actually it's a bit simpler :D
Eliminate the enemy, or unlock a door and escape. Think collapsed tunnel, but both sides have the same obj.

I think the only extra packages Interdiction used was custom meshes for the outdoors cabins. Otherwise I think everything else inside the base was in T-Equipment, T2-Equipment, and T-Exterior.

Code: [Select]
Major-Skrewupâ„¢: lol
Major-Skrewupâ„¢: 213268 lines
Major-Skrewupâ„¢: he can get fucked
Spanky: interdiction would be easy
Spanky: once you remove the ai paths and bots, there's going to be a LOT less code

I agree with Skrewy the code is huge, i was aware that the map is a complex one, as i said before. If the converting has to be done manually and if you have some reference/info to drop about it i would be willing to do the job :) .

SNAKEPLAIN!
But no AI so Defence spaws in all 3 objective sites.
assault spawns in normal place.
But no vehicles so map time would have to set to half an hour or something, Epic rounds.

Pshh, we'll just add some cheap drive-able cardboard boxes. You can imagine the cardboard box to be anything you like as you drive it.

Wow talk about hijack...lol

Well a 2.8 map that I did like was Oldtown. I couldn't really play it well back then because of the System demands, but I thought both teams going for the same carryable objective was a great idea. I liked Extraction for the same reason.
Urban and Mt. McKenna were almost like that with the activated Objectives, but there is temptation for camping.

Oldtown and Extraction were maps that you had to get the obj. the get the heck outta Dodge with.  :) True balnce as far as setup was concerned.

Just my 2cents.

But w/e you guys decide is cool by me....I know NOTHING about coding scripting or any other mumbo jumbo...I'm just a lowly user...lol

For SnakePlain i think the main central fort would still fit perfect for Assault and Defense. I used to play Snakeplain a lot and i know the mission gameplay and tactics are entirely different from a pure PvP assault/defense (it was an object-pow rescue mission with 2 humvees, 50cal and Mk19 shells) but the map is indeed too big for a team without vehicles. And if you get killed at some point at the beginning it's gonna be a long wait if you plan a 20/25 minuts timelapse.

Pshh, we'll just add some cheap drive-able cardboard boxes. You can imagine the cardboard box to be anything you like as you drive it.

The ability of driving any kind of object would be a plus (since there's already a chance of surfing on boxes lol).

I want this one map, Just this one, as an experiment in epic long rounds, Though how carefully people will play knowing they've got to wait half an hour if they get themselfs killed.

Back when I dicked around with 2.8's mission editor, I had this dream to make this epic huge map where teams follow a road that winds up a mountain. At one point you'd reach halfway up the mountain and you had to cross a bridge to get to another mountain. After crossing the bridge, you have 2 choices. A cave leading to the top of the mountain, or outdoors path leading to the top of the mountain. It was supposed to be an AI map but I never started on it hahaha. It's still just an idea.

If you guys have some solid ideas for maps/objectives or whatever tactical team maps, please post them in the mAAp forum (http://hsc.natescomp.com/maap/). I'm seeing a lot of great ideas. Please start your topics with [IDEA] if you post there. It makes it easier for me to read thru the topics.

I found out via the AA site recently that Mountain Pass and Bridge are 2 maps but they're meant to be 1 mission in 2 stages. Like, you cross the bridge and then scale the mountain pass. I've tossed the idea of merging both maps but it's not too practical.

I have thoughts on how to do this but it would require editing all of the maps which would make for a big update. Not really something we wanna do right now.

Bingo. I figured the first fireteam is unlocked, set all the other playerstarts to the first fireteam :) Lotta work and huge map file updates. Not really worth it IMO. A mod solution would be better. Perhaps you can look in the tournament code in the sources you have?

Oh man I forgot to tell you about that. I don't have any code for AGP_Tournament. It's non existent in 2.4.1. I remember you found a line that had a bool value for enableAllWeaponSlots or something like that. I guess a good test would be to make a u file that turns that value to true, maybe itll work in normal gameplay modes. Although Ill probably take a closer look at the code sources I have again and see if theres any lines I missed.

AllWeaponSlotsOpen and bTournamentOpenAllWeaponClassSlots are in AGP_Gameplay.u

I've tried to create something that forces but nothing that compiles will work. Time to call in VendorX.

You can open them all in Tournament mode.  I'm hoping there is a command to do this in normal mode, I have tried but with no success adding it to the ini.  V2.6 have this command available in the ini and also the console.

There must be a easy way.

Maybe you could trick it to think there are the player numbers to open the slots? or if you can work out what code enables that then set it.

Interesting. I looked in the 2.4.1 source and opening weapon slots isn't even available for tournament mode. Seems like Tournament mode open slots was introduced in 2.5 and then globally in 2.6. Perhaps if we had some 2.6 files, namely AGP_Gameplay.u we could work on it some more. Duplicate their functions.

I just wanted to say thanks to jonny and spanky and everybody who helped with 2.5 assist...thanks so much for your work.

when auth died on 2.8.5, i thought that was defnitly end of the AAO i kno and love... and ill admit, even when 2.5 assist was first hittin tracker forums, i had doubts we would get any NEW players, jus figured old die hards like myself at most.... well, needless to say, i stand in my own tracks, i been seeing plenty of new people joining the game, and thats great! simply amazing. Kinda even inspired me to get more, made a couple posts on gamer forums lettin em kno this is back alive.

anyways, just rambling now. Just seriously, thanks to the ones who devoted their time to assist and maps, and thanks to all the players for making this possible.

AA 2.x is growing slowly, but surely. thanks again.
