Title: Increasing chat text size?
Post by: rifkenhausen on Saturday, April 07, 2012, 14:59:20 PM
Is there a way to increase chat text size because it is very hard to read on higher resolutions?

Hmm, i'm totally not the website developer, but the chat box is rather small. The font size might be increased by a few points only me thinks. Jared and/or Spanky knows fo sho.

Whoops. Right.

He's talking about the text in AA. I don't know if it's possible or not, but it is next to impossible to read the blue messages on a 1080p monitor without having to look really close to the screen.

Not possible. Do not touch the user.ini. That line is for a different console package.

We have to add the feature in at some point.

The game doesn't cap FPS. If you're going more than 60, you aren't getting any benefit.

sorta right and wrong unreal engine caps fps in "online mode" to a max of 90

Which is more than anybody playing AA would need.

No, I wasn't. My point still stands, even if AA locks FPS to 90 in online mode, there's no point to unlock it past that because YOU'RE NOT GOING TO GET ANYTHING ABOVE 60 FPS UNLESS YOUR MONITOR IS A 120HZ TV! MOST LCD MONITORS DISPLAY 60HZ AT THEIR NATIVE RESOLUTION THUS THEY CAN ONLY HANDLE 60FPS. HZ = PER SECOND, FPS = PER SECOND. DO THE MATH.

Tards.

Nah, just tired of people being misinformed. It's caps because I wanted to emphasize it.

This is only valid if you have enabled v-sync which I strongly oppose. V-sync prevents tearing of the sequential frames and you should only enable v-sync if you can't stand it. Me, myself, do not even notice tearing.

Tearing is painfully obvious in AA. V-Sync isn't the issue here anyway. Your monitor itself, the logic board in it, can only refresh 60 times a second (unless you have a 120hz TV as a monitor or you're playing at a lower resolution which would allow 75hz on some monitors). You are not getting any more FPS. Your GPU can render thousands of frames per second but only 60 are picked up and displayed by your monitor. Thus, it's pointless to have any higher.

Vsync is useless unless you know for sure your GPU can always render more than 60 fps (or your refresh rate) in ALL situations. It's only used to stop displaying partial rendered frames which are most visible during fast panning/rotation.

Why are we talking about refresh rate? This is about console text size.

Well, considering that in AA the most of the work is done by the Cpu (using a single core at a time), the game will always have some hiccups, even if you run on the best rig assembled yesterday. Sure it is a matter of visual quality, tearing can be awful.

what benefits are there of having vsync off if ur screens capped @ 60?
idk I never worried about it on any of my games, I needed my AA loading screens at 250 fps otherwise I wouldnt have been good

Vsync on - cutting performances in half (if you graphic card/cpu was able to render more than 60 frames per second you hardly have to worry about). Instead, if you were running at 40fps before, behold! You now run at 20s.

Vsync off - if you have a decently modern system the graphic card/cpu smokes a cig while rendering your fabulous screens.
