Hello! Why AA2,5?
« on: Saturday, December 31, 2011, 07:50:18 AM »
Hello everybody

I downloaded AA2.5 assist because I want to dive deep in this AA2 game, altough i am new to it. It is because we want to use it in our youthproject. We have a series of PC's that wont play AA3 but probably will play this game (Dell Optiplex GX280). But in the mean while, after looking into fora I have seen many people who think AA2 is a much better game, so I don't mind not being able to use AA3.

We want to use a game like AA because we want a realistic gameplay. We do a lot of fantasyroleplay, Fantasy Live Action RolePlay and airsoft aswell and like realistic settings for our games. A bit romanticized of course but still realistic, so we can really believe in our story's :)

So I am very happy to find this project of yours, it is a very nice initiative! Thank you for your efforts, I hope it will trive!

Now I have a question, quit important for us:

Is there anyway we can still use the training facilities, not only marksmanship? If I need to start a server to be able to use them, I am willing, but it seems to be that the absence of authentification is the problem? Or can we manage that trough Battletracker?

If the only solution is the own based authentification and honoring system that you are talking about in this forum, then I would be willing to help with that. I am not a IT specialist though but there might be administratieve things that I can take responsability for? I can do some easy website work or help coördinate foramatters... Or organise a server?

Besides of that I really want to learn the gamemechanics so If any server needs players, here I am: Enlisted Soldier RSJohnson!

Thank you for the great job you are doing and see you around!

I think you should be able to play training missions, they just won't be recorded into your account. We'll see what Jonny has to say though since I know pretty much nothing about the current status of 2.5.

Might look bigger, but it aint.....

Training missions/facilities: Like Spanky said completion of training missions don't get recorded anymore, however you can still pull them up and use them. Training missions were, of course, made for single player so if that is what you want and don't care about whether or not completion is recorded, you can pull them up through the console with the open command.

You could pull up training missions in a server to have multiple people join it, but a lot of the functions of the mission won't work anymore.

I think I answered your question?

Thank you all for your answers

The recording is not a problem for us as we will keep track on paper :) we use the game for our youthgroup and will integrate it with plain non-pc RPG.

I will just have to learn how to 'pull the missions up', I think you talk about wen you create a game on a server?

If you just train as a single player, being not connected to internet, you cannot train past Markmansship, because there is no pointsrecording. At least tat's what I experienced wen I tried.

I think I will have to learn how to manage a AA2 server anyway, to use te game properly for our aims...

Greetings!

Will bring back the buttons to launch the training missions in a future release. Also managing your own server is easy, just click and the server tab and all is easy to follow.

If you start america's army press the ` key. This will bring up the console. Now, to pull up any training mission you use the open command. Here is an example to start the marksmanship training: open rifle_range. Now the training mission will load and function as normal.

Here is a list of all of the names of the training missions with the name of the actual mission listed next to it:
Basic Training
rifle_range - Marksmanship
obstacle - Obstacle Course
us_weapons - US Weapons
mout - MOUT (Shoot House)

Advanced Marksmanship
m24_range - M24
m82_range - M82

Airborne School
jump_tower - 250' Tower
live_jump - Live Jump

Medic Training
medic_training1 - Airway Management
medic_training2 - Control Bleeding
medic_training3 - Treat Shock
medic_field - Field Training

SF Training
camp_mackall - SF AVWID
eande - SF E and E

Once again let me list an example. To start the shoot house training mission, you open with console with the ` key. Then type open mout

Fun fact: The names of the missions map file name in the Maps folder of the America's Army Installation.

AA medic training was great, u actually learnt first aid, course not things like cpr that u need proper training for many other usual things.
but the jump trainings where weird, I dont think theres a way to fail them tbh

and enjoy ur sf e&e training

Escape and Evade...most of the other trainings are really easy or at least take a little time but E&E was much worst  :o i recall taking at the very least 30 mins to complete it.
