Title: Coop Mod in 25Assist?

Hi.

I've added this poll to see if there is a reason for me to dive into the coop code of AA2.8.5 and try to bring back a functionally Mod to allow us to play against AI here in 25Assist.

This is NOT modifying all existing maps to Players vs AI, just the possibility to add new maps with Coop functionality,

I would say yes only if it's possible to have AI on all maps BUT enable/disable them with a mod. Then the server admin could decide if they want to play assault/defense or coop on any map.

It's nice having coop only maps but, I dunno. I guess I have nothing against them. It would just be nice to have coop on all maps.

Yes! Definatly yes! One question though, is there a chance we might be able to work on AI in the older 2.4.1 editor? Of course it's not a critical matter but it would be icing on the cake for anyone interested  :cool:

tbh, bots in aa are so dumb, no fun to play against them, they run into walls then suddenly autoaiming on you and aimboting, it was never popular, doesnt worth it imho

Exactly, they weren't very smart. That's why I think it'd be a shame to waste disk space on co-op only maps. But, if we can add the functionality into all maps and let the server owner decide, that would be pretty damn good.

I'd say why not. I mean there will be no negative effect, the worst that can happen is that you lost your time for nothing. So the question should've been: Do you want to play coop, if there are some

Ideally, all of them. Perhaps somehow we can add them to all maps and then the server admin could switch it on or off.

That sounds good also , is there going to be any new maps "Custom maps" to be played on Co-op mod only ?

If we can't turn co-op on/off and have it on all maps, you can bet that there will be custom maps with co-op on it. Snakeplain, Interdiction and other official ones would be re-converted with AI.

In snakeplain ..Is the function of driving the jeep will be available ?

I wouldn't know how to do it, ELiZ is thinking about it. I don't think he has looked to see if it's 100% possible or not.

Then you you might have to move closer even the POW and the random objectives, having to walk from the Fort to Viper Veranda isn't a option on Snakeplain, playing a single round would take ages...oh and well T62's and BMP's should be removed aswell, lacking the code and resources behind...

statistically, no, it doesnt worth it as i mentioned in the previous post, i never seen ai so dumb and unfinished like in aa, its like out of 10k people that played aa daily, 5% to 10% played ai maps, you do the math

But wouldn't it be great if we could have 12 AI players all on defence on Insurgent camp, a couple of guys could go in there on assault and rape them.

Exactly.. and i think it's just fun playing this , at least something new and different there will be more stuff to do.

On all the maps...? We'll need to take care of the path, patrolling nodes, firing nodes, covering points, etc.

jonny did you ever played ai maps? its like killing puppets, no fun imho, it will be dead after few days, and i hope its gonna be untracked.

Personally i don't care about honor and score, as long as there's someone to play with i would play cooperative.

Which is something I've never done but I'm somewhat hoping that maybe if we add everything that we can copy it into notepad and see if Possessed or ELiZ can turn it into a mod that can be turned on/off.

I know that back in the day, Crusade would add bots onto maps via coordinates. They had no paths but they worked. I believe this had something significant to do with it:

I played cooperative for a couple years before America's Army went down, both official and custom maps. At the moment i play a lot on Killing Floor, which is a cooperative survival, wave based game (it is insanely challenging on Suicidial and Hell on Earth levels). So it's not like "bots are stupid" simply their behavior is as refined as it was designed to be, if you don't write how a bot will behave he will do next to nothing (like the bots from 2.4.1).

Hmm maybe they might move a little, it's probably designed into their behavior, not sure of the "default" level of awareness and use of the nearby background by the AI.

there are not even enough players to play the normal maps. i think its not good for the game, for me it goes together with the mod question, nothing about the original sense of this game...

Me & Jonny don't really know enough to do anything. ELiZ is the code master and he's busy with other projects & life. Give it some time, he will explore the possibility and once implemented, it will take a while to add it to maps. I'll bet that you won't see it in the next 2 weeks.
