Title: Can't seem to update my basic training progress....
Post by: Johnboy007 on Tuesday, January 01, 2013, 16:56:46 PM
 :? Hi,
I am completely new user and have tried to register my basic training progress using the 25 assist.
I try saving my progress but nothing happens, even after waiting a while. I tried to join a game but got booted off after a couple of minutes.
I run windows7 32 bit, and my internet speed is 70mb+.
What am I doing wrong please???????
Cheers,
john

Trainings are no longer needed in order to play any of the missions (SF or similar). Trainings results can't be saved because the official America's Army authorization and tracking services have been stopped as of December 2011, the Assist runs on an authorization and tracking system that is based on Battletracker that as of now doesn't include trainings results tracking.

ELiZ, can you please add some text to the Trainings tab in Assist? Or perhaps a pop-up box whenever someone clicks to load a training map? Something like "Training is not longer necessary to play online. You cannot save your progress. It is only here for practice.".

I dont see any value in the trainings, perhaps we should get rid of them?
Or at least remove the tab from Assist?

Imho it's just that people rarely go through any of em, but that that aside they offer some information and basic knowledge. Not much worthy to the game itself anymore but rather to personal knowledge though (quite within the spirit which this game was made for, a promotional tool for the US army).

There was talk in another thread briefly about making them an optional download. I think it would be good to have a poll for users to vote to see if many people use them. They are pretty cool but they don't serve the point of a recruiting tool anymore, that's what AA3 is for. As far as I'm concerned, Spankyville can be removed.

Why not make em compulsory? I mean it would be better for everybody no?

Problem is that we would have to put in quite a few hours to make it work.

Modify the auth to handle this.
Modify all the training maps.
Modify the Scripts in various U files.

And probably more that I can’t think of right now

But you are right; it would be nice to make it work.

Oh well didn't know how much effort it was. If someone got time and motivation for this it could be nice.

:D Thanks to everyone that replied to my post... I really appreciate you guys :)
I used to play AA when it first come out, many years ago. Then somehow lost the program.
I am in my late 60's now, but still feel like I could get my ass kicked for a few more years.
But why in the hell do I get kicked off a game after a few minutes by PB. It doesn't give me time to even explore the situation, let alone get a shot off. Can't see what I am doing wrong.  :?
Is there a newbie game I could join without getting banned after a little while?
Or does some tough guy have room for this old guy on his server.
You will need to be patient though, and maybe not shoot me in frustration.........lol
Cheers,
John

I think this is the [Punkbuster OS exception error], couple of solutions:
- Adding Punkbuster to your firewall exceptions
- After getting kicked rejoin the server after deleting PunkbusterA and PunkbusterB processes.

For me the last option only helps as punkbuster somehow does not work very well under Windows XP

That's all easy compared to modifying the Battletracker database to add training values... You could use a database on the Assist server but that's still a fair bit of work to setup.
