I would like to suggest for Assist to be available for download at http://www.desura.com/
-
You know more than we do about it, you tell them :)
-
I don't think it is so much about telling them than it is about sending them to install files, and I don't have access to that
-
Of course you do, everybody does;

Do ya thing August :)

This is a very nice looking website. I just registered to poke around it. This is me. (http://www.desura.com/members/blueblaster)
August if you've gotten started contacting them then awesome. Otherwise I guess I could. I'm not always confident in my contacting skills.
-
Blue, I havent contacted anyone. I havent even tested the software.
To be completely honest, I believe any interaction between Assist and any other download sites, reviews sites, hosting sites and so forth should be done at the administrative level. Besides the obvious technical reasons (access to files and so forth), it looks much more professional when it is done thru official channels. In addition, it has much more chance of getting approved if it is done thru official channels.

I'll be blunt, I won't do it. From the 3 seconds of rapid scrolling and viewing I did on their site, it seems like a Steam clone. I don't understand how adding another 3rd party level to AA 2.5 would help (3rd party program downloading a 3rd party program to play the game). If you want it, go ahead and contact them, we'll back you 100% and help you with anything. Aren't you our honorary advertiser as well? :)

Spanky, no disrespect, but I think you are missing the point. Doesnt matter if it is a clone of Steam or another software. Any program and any site that has users is good for Assist.
And it is not about having a 3rd party downloading a 3rd party. The idea is to have the install available directly on their site/software and be available as mirror download/optional download.
The official download will always be here, however one of the main ways to expand the player base is to also expand the download locations. So what you would do on the download page is indicated:
Official download- links
Mirror Download- links
Just as example of a few other options:
download.com
bigpoint (or whatever it is called)
steam
and so forth
And yes, I can contact them too. Lets first see if Blue hasnt already

I totally get your point without disrespect :) It's the same reason I seed the Assist torrent so people can download it. It would be nice if there was a true mirror rather than mirrors for the 12MB Assist takes up and then downloads AA from SourceForge.
-
And this could be a true mirror. You would just need to send them direct files and show it everywhere that people can download it from there :D

It would have to be hard-coded into Assist then and that causes other issues.
-
I have to look at the mirror situation before I contact. Like Spanky says, alternate mirrors need to be coded into Assist (or we may find another way), so I need to see how that works before I talk to them. I don't want to let them down if we find out something doesn't work correctly :D

Understood Blue.
Like I said above, with the obvious technical reasons, it would probably be best for you guys to contact them. If help needed, just let me know
