Title: AAO-Daily tournament
Post by: marten77 on Monday, May 07, 2012, 06:33:40 AM
Hey

Me and hunii are thinking of making AAO-Daily tournament with prizes maybe even money prizes. So I have a question would people participate if there would be an entrance fee?Huni is building a tournament system and brackets. Also if we get lucky we might get some sponsors for prizes etc.And if there are some people who would like to help let us know because we are trying to set up a big tournament with a lot of clans to get competitive play back on track :P

More than interested to help, in fact..

I have a sh!t-hot dedicated server running a 512 Player TS3 Server, as well as a 2.5 Assist Server.. I'm sure it can handle that + way more no problem.. Would like to give the server a good stress test, so I am offering to you our Server for this tournament.

Let me know if you are interested;

NET I think that would be great thing , but I hope the server is located in EU since the league we're going to create is more focused on EU players .
Or maybe , to get more teams ,  we can make it EU and USA players sign up together , but the pings would be a problem then... idk ...
I'm also implementing an old , but never hacked anticheat program for this league

Why isn't the existing anti-cheat good enough? How would yours be better? The only way to make anti-cheat better is to improve Assist. Not add on another bloaty mod.

Unfortunately, it is not..

Yet you guys are more than welcome to still use the Voice Server..
(as ping has no matter for chatter ;) )

Agreed; There has always seemed to be more EU Players than US..

Perhaps a US League gets going to? that's where my server would come into play :P

Ping is always a big issue when it comes to FPS, especially AA.. wouldn't be a good idea to host such event, unless all players average pings were close to each other..

The offer will remain on the table, just let me know your decision.. :)

EDIT:

I come from an International Clan, we have many members, from many parts of the world.. When we had a 2.8.5 Server in San Jose, we never seemed to have a problem with Ping.

No , the current anti-cheat isn't good at all. I've already seen some old known hackers hack at this version , it didn't seem to stop them.
I'm not going to reveal any more info about anticheat , i'd like to keep it a secret , then when the time comes , it'll be a big surprise and many hackers will be exposed.
@ NET
Yeah I agree , voice server would be fine , but gameserver i doubt it... I mean atleast for me i strive for best ping and I believe others do too.. But i'll talk to you about it when I get the tournament system implemented into the site!
How about that idea to mix both USA and EU teams? Anyone agrees? Opinions ?

Cool, divide up the community even further. A second ladder and a private 3rd party anti-cheat system that isn't on all servers.

I don't know about you guys but i am always suspicious when someone try to implement a "new anti-cheat" system, however i do think there is at least one player playing in a very "wierd" way...

I'm sure there's a couple hackers out there but I'm also sure that the percentage of them compared to legitimate players is considerably less than it was prior to Assist being mandatory. Assist has a bunch of stuff for anti-cheat that wasn't possible before. How is your "old" anti-cheat system any better?
Title: Re: AAO-Daily tournament
Post by: BlueBlaster on Monday, May 07, 2012, 22:01:47 PM
Every time I've seen someone implement an anti-cheat system they think is better, I've noticed it's old, sucks, and they haven't figured out that AA does not run in the same way it did pre-Assist. I'm not a fan of "custom" anti-cheats because I haven't seen a better one so far.

Spanky beat me to saying "old" anti-cheat.

New anti-cheat system?Butters stated its an anti-cheat what was used in AA Pro league.

Divide? What?
Isn't on all servers? What ?
The AC is client based only , let's stop talking about the anti cheat and focus on the league itself... I guess I can't find the answer I am looking for on these forums

Well to be fair, you come in here claiming to have a great anti-cheat system, then fail to even tell us what it is? It makes no sense.

Fuck all of that noise,

My TS3 Server is always open to everyone, this is causing more headache then helping..

So how do you expect to get your super fantastic anti-cheat mandatory on all clients when you won't tell the Assist admins what it does, even in a PM? I think you're blowing smoke.

Yea, you kinda do need permission as well as help because without Pit-23 or Jonny implementing it, you won't see it mandatory on all clients. Plus, you're the one that mentioned it, if you didn't want a conversation about it, why did you mention it?

marten, I got your PM and sent a reply off.

Woah woah chill , spanky where did i ever say it will be mandatory? In my league it will be mandatory , as it is my league and my rules. Nothing that you guys say here won't change my mind , so you can keep attacking.
@ major , what difference would it make if i tell the admins or not?
Title: Re: AAO-Daily tournament

Because your anti-cheat has a 50% chance of working if it is what I think it is.

To be effective, it has to be mandatory. I was thinking that it would be for everybody, not just for league participation. I know now that it would only be possible under league settings and that it would be way too costly in terms of dollars and man hours to implement it full time.

Well thats what i'm saying , just for this league. Never did I want to force everyone to use it , that's just ridicolous. And maybe I expressed myself wrong , i am NOT coding it myself , it's an old anticheat that has been used in competitive tournaments etc and never been hacked , thats why i trust it so much

The general purpose of Assist is to dispel pretty much all hacks. If you have something better, what's wrong with getting it to work globally?

Well i'm not sure whether or not will it work better than assist , tbh i don't even know how assist works , don't know what their AC is so i can't say much , but atleast it'll offer more protection in the league i'm planning , since it will contain prizes and stuff. I don't want to hand prizes to teams that didn't deserve it. I remember once in EMS , alot of money was handed out to a team that blatantly hacked their way to 1st place.

Okay update , seems like the old anticheat does not support assist so i can't really use it for the league..
I'd like to know more of how assist functions as an anti cheat. Everyone here is claiming that it's the best anticheat so i'd like to know more.. Is there some topic explaining how it works and how could i benefit from it for running this league? By benefit I mean would I be able to check people's ingame screenshot (no , not the pb screenshots) or running programs in the process? Maybe it's not smart to talk about it in public , that's the main reason why i didn't want to tell the name of the anticheat i wanted to use... idk , need some suggestions!

I'd like to know more of how assist functions as an anti cheat.

It's not like the anti-cheat you were going to use, that's too impractical to implement. First off, there's Anti-Poke which scans the client to catch pokes entered in the console. This is a glitch of the 2.5 version that could never be caught before Assist. Then there's HackHunter (re-built and improved version of ExploitEnder) that actively scans for tons of variables like no recoil and things like that. It has caught hacks that were thought to be undetected by their makers. It doesn't catch the hack, it catches the result of the hack. Then it uses the best compiled PB scripts in the entire game which were created by a UScript coder that knew all there is to know about in-game functions and variables.

To top all of that off, everything above is mandatory for the server to function in a tracked and honor gaining environment. Hackers are globally banned on the system, not banned per server. It makes it much harder for them to come back and hack again. It's the best that AA has had for Anti-Cheat. Sure it can be bypassed and sure it's not perfect but it's pretty darn good. There's a couple of code improvements that will come in updates soon that will make things better as well.

It is very nice to see that the anticheat is still being updated , if anything that gives me the security to play the game again. Thanks for explaining it to me spanky , i was mostly dissapointed because i saw a 2.8.5 player which was hacking on that version still hacks on 2.5... I don't want to point any names , neither I have any proof but i just know he is.
I feel there's no need for me to find any 3rd party anticheat for the league so it'll start soon.
Just 1 more thing , if I have any info about a hack that works , would you guys be able to stop the same hack from working again?

Yea, send us a PM (Pit-23 too) with some info about it and we can investigate. If you have proof about a player that hacked in 2.8.5 such as a sketchy past with linked bans and insanely high KDR, let us know about that too. That's the best thing with Assist, we decide who gets banned on every single server :) Something ACI could never do.

Noted! I just have a player name but really no evidence on him other than how he plays for a player that was never anything higher than a low skill , atleast in competitive scene.
Say , would a demorec be proof good enough evidence to ban a player?

Depends on what it shows. If he is blatantly hacking, like his aim is snapping to players, then yeah. If it is just some player doing really good, then no.
