It seems that some NVIDIA cards are able to be set as such that when the option
"Full shadows" is set in game, the shadows stretch up to 3 meters long.
Means that if a guy hides proned somewhere, for example Main entrance Hospital
right side in the grass alongside the wall, his shadow will reach the inside of the
main entrance corridor and reveal his presence to anyone with those settings
walking out of the building...
-
This isn't news.

There's really nothing you can do to prevent people from doing that. As gay as it is you can't control what peoples graphics card settings are.

Can't we ban the use of shadows by cvaring them ? lol

that might take away to use the in game shadows but I'm not sure if it will affect the card settings
-
It's one thing to cvar something that can only be accessed in the ini, but to cvar something in the game's menu? Really?

Well if there are no shadows in-game anymore who cares how the GC is set ?
-
Before 2006, you were able to switch walls off, lol.

well if it prevents someone to wallhack then why not.
-
Because it's not a wallhack. I agree that it's a dirtbag thing to do, but something like that could easily be looked for by obtaining screenshots.
-
we talked about this a while ago and it should be in the next cvar update.
-
Roger.

our servers along with n3's servers cvars force you to turn off shadows already, plus other things you cant tweak or do.

So you're saying the next CVARs will kick for having shadows on? Some people might not even understand what they're kicked for as you can enable them in game...
-
You also need to get rid of that ridiculous sound tweaks.
With these tweaks you can hear enemies across the whole map and even pinpoint them down.
-
With good headphones, soundcard and eq settings you don't need sound tweaks to hear people from the other side of the map

if shadows stretch up to 3 meters long and cross walls, that should be reason enough

Sure, I understand, but then I'd suggest an Assist update that removes the option from the game.
The problem is that if you have a half-decent rig, most people will want to raise all the settings to "highest", and shadows as "Full" sure looks like a higher setting than "Blob" or "None"...
-
as someone with a decent computer whose always had shadows on highest if your a little bitch hiding in the corner tight enough for your shadow to go through and alert others you deserve to die. this isnt as game braking as you make it sound
Well i saw u playin already, thought you'd be thankful for that rule :D
