Title: Why I Won't Buy Things From Gamestop Anymore
Post by: Alex on Thursday, February 17, 2011, 18:55:03 PM
So I walked into gamestop today to reserve Crysis 2. I told the guy at the counter that I wanted to reserve Crysis 2 for PC and he said "Oh, so you have one of those $1000 computers that can run Crysis?" It made me remember why I never go to gamestop, the employees are ****ing stupid. This will be the last time I ever get anything there.

What's wrong with buying/pre-ordering it online? Cut out the middleman mark-up.

I want a hard copy and I don't have a credit card or paypal to use. It is much easier just using cash.

What's the appeal of having a hard copy? A shiny CD that takes up space? Waste of resources IMO.

I'd rather physically own the game. Also, I don't have a credit card to pre-order it online. I also don't have the greatest internet so the download would take forever.

EDIT- Fuck that. Direct2Drive has a 20% off coupon code so it will only cost me $44 to preorder it there. I'm going to gamestop tomorrow to un-reserve it. :D Now I just need to convince my parents to let me use their credit card......

How old are you killa? With most banks you can get a debit card that can be used online

17. 18 in June. I'm not sure if I can do that, but even if I could, I don't buy things online much so it would be a waste, especially since paying in cash is usually easier.

When you realize the copious amount of Chinese goods that are available online... you will change your mind.

I like marveling at box art and instruction manual art. I dunno if they still do it like they used to back in the day.

Something tells me that they don't. It's probably 3DSMax renderings of characters used in the game then Photoshopped to look good. Basically, something with amazing quality that you won't see in the game.

I liked it when the graphics on the box art was like movie studio quality and the game graphics were blocks.

While that maybe true for the GameStops in your area, its not true for all of them. The game stop closest to my house has some really cool people working there and I enjoy going into that store. If you are going to make a thread bashing a chain post that, in your experience at the stores you have gone to, are bad, because chances are they aren't bad every where.

All 3 in my area are pretty bad, especially when it comes to PC games. I never said they weren't nice, the people are usually nice, they just don't know anything about the PC or PC games.

There's a store in my area (not gamestop) that sells computer parts and games. They're pretty condescending, much like Killaman's experience. I've given up and really see no purpose to game stores these days. I overpaid on every single item I purchased there. If you want physical copies of the game, places like Amazon and eBay are great. Lotta places online have no store to rent, no employees to pay and you don't get any lip from them. The middleman might have had a purpose back in the Sega days but not anymore.

Can you re-word this? I've read it multiple times and still have no idea what it's supposed to say.

He is saying that instead of just flat out saying what happened and what they do, I should say "in my experiences" because not every place is the same.

Yeah that's definitely what you should do if you're a pretentious whore. Otherwise, carry on.
