Title: F.lux Lighting
Post by: Archeh on Monday, August 01, 2011, 13:44:00 PM
Not exactly a "must-have program" but cool nonetheless. Pretty creative :p

Ever notice how people texting at night have that eerie blue glow?

Or wake up ready to write down the Next Great Idea, and get blinded by your computer screen?

During the day, computer screens look good—they're designed to look like the sun. But, at 9PM, 10PM, or 3AM, you probably shouldn't be looking at the sun.

F.lux fixes this: it makes the color of your computer's display adapt to the time of day, warm at night and like sunlight during the day.

Quote
f.lux makes your computer screen look like the room you're in, all the time. When the sun sets, it makes your computer look like your indoor lights. In the morning, it makes things look like sunlight again.

Tell f.lux what kind of lighting you have, and where you live. Then forget about it. F.lux will do the rest, automatically.

Im not sure if the software is actually changing the color temperature of the monitor, or if its changing rgb values for the graphics card to display.

LOL that's what it does :P Changes the sharp white to a easier color on the eyes. Same reason why I have yellow CFL bulbs in the bathroom rather than those pure white ones.

I know but going for almost true-color to yellow tinted EVERY THING. I mean it was like looking through glass that had been in a smokers house for 100 years.

Yea, I understand. That's why I haven't tried it. I read the reviews on it. I mean, it's a cool product but I don't know if the trade for eye strain vs true color is worth it you know.

Im using it because Ive been working on the comp a lot at night. I dont do color important work at that time either so it doesn't matter that everything turns warm.

Reddit.

I'm pretty sure I understand what you're saying here, but could you clarify anyway?

Oh! I was under the influence of things and thought he was saying that I found it on reddit and posted it here, thus taking credit away from myself. It's pretty ironic coincidental because the other thread I posted here included a video I saw on reddit, while this program was on my roommate's computer and piqued my interest.
