Title: E3 2012: What are you excited for?
Post by: BlueBlaster on Thursday, June 07, 2012, 15:08:42 PM
I just read an article about The Cave at Kotaku (http://kotaku.com/5916447/the-cave-is-a-smart-game-that-reminds-me-whats-so-great-about-adventuring) and it got me really excited because I really love adventure/exploration games. The thing that struck me about The Cave is not how it's reminiscent of Maniac Mansion and Ron Gilbert's other games, but how much it reminded me of Live A Live (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_A_Live). Seven characters, each with their own story, they meet together at some point, etc. I really loved Live A Live (enough that it has a spot as one of my desktop backgrounds), so I'm really excited for The Cave.

Well me being a HUGE fan of the Tomb Raider series I'm quite excited for the newest installment of TR. Too bad it doesnt come out until march of 2013 :(

It does look pretty sick though

I'll probably pick up a Wii U if it's $350 or less.

Also, it feels strange to say but Ubisoft owned E3. They're the only company that actually did good.

It's a shame that their DRM stops me from buying their games.
What DRM? The same always online DRM that Diablo 3 uses? hmm, seems a bit hypocritical.

I didn't see anything about E3. I don't expect BF4, DiRT4, HL2EP3, Portal3 or any of the other games I'm interested in though.

There won't be an Episode 3, it's been too long. It will be Half-Life 3. Also, after BF3, I'm not excited for BF4, at all. BF3 was a big let-down, and DICE has been slowly going downhill since BF2.

Way to be Mr. Negative Killa. There HAS to be an ending to EP2, whether it's EP3 or HL3. I haven't played BF3 yet but from all of Skrewy's winging and in-game footage, the graphics look nice but it doesn't look vastly superior to BF2, only better than BFBC2 which was a few steps backwards.

Not being negative in any way. There will be a Half-Life 3, Gabe Newell (head of Valve) has confirmed that it's being worked on.

I'm excited for the Wii U though. Looks like a perfect secondary gaming platform, much like my Wii is.

The game name is pretty stupid, but the game look phenomenal. While Capcom has been busy pussifying Resident Evil, another dev is actually working on a survival horror zombie game.

Uhm. Neither i expect a totally brand new game set aside of the most known franchises from one among the bigger companies...it really is the time for something fresh and made with attention to detail.

Take a look at "Dear Esther" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtWOi-lZf2o

I saw Dear Esther on Steam a while back, it kinda blew me away with looks but the game didn't seem very exciting. Project Cars looks good as long as those images aren't Photoshopped like most other game advertisements these days.

Na, I've seen a ton of in-game Project Cars screenshots from users, the game looks amazing.

It's about a good, well written story. Now i know the "written" part doesn't get you excited :D but it stands for a good plot. Something that makes sense and builds a structure to your game to be disegned around.

Skyrim was a buggy, glitchy piece of shit with a terrible story line.

Anything bethesda has released sucks when compared to Morrowind. Which is why I'm excited for Elder Scrolls online since we can visit Vvardenfell again.

:D Yea, I just can't get into wizard fairy stuff. It's impossibly unrealistic and thus doesn't entertain me.

I don't like rpg games, 1 rpg I played was Tibia LOL, but I got tired of dying after hours killing stupid snakes LOL.
I only play FPS(98%)/Race(2%) games :D

Yea, I tend to lean towards more realistic games. Not realism simulators but games that have at least 1 foot in this world. That typically is FPS and racing games. Half Life is about as far as I go into unrealism.

it's impossible to play a rpg without a group of mates/guild w/e, an unrealistc game that I finished without cheats/trainers was Tron 2.0, I only have a few games, most of them are old.
FPS: AA, Stalker Clear Sky, Swat 4, Wolfenstein ET, Point Blank, PRISM: Guard Shield, Marine Sharpshooter 4, KumarWar 2, True Combat: Elite(Wolf ET mod)
RPG(?): GTA Vice city & San andreas
Racing: Need for speed most wanted & TrackMania United(my license expired :( )
non-installed: Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30(both of my dvd readers are dead ¬¬), DF: Black Hawk Down/TeamSabre, Line of Sight: Vietnam, Arma: Cold war Assault(aka OFP), Postal 2/Share the Pain. Tron 2.0, Xpand Rally Extreme, Die Hard: Trilogy 2, NFS Underground 2, Aces High 2.
my 80gb 2.5" HD (notebook hd) enjoy all that stuff lol.
"old, but good"

Wow, Watch Dogs is on my list. I am impressed on so many levels. I was thinking at first it's all rendered in 3DS Max but then it switched into gameplay and didn't lose any quality. I bet the computer they ran it on is probably $2000 though.

If you bought Skyrim for the story you're doing it wrong.

Being trained in how a fairy world works and learning what kind of potions and wizard spells you have to use, that kills it for me. I find RPG gameplay boring. Fallout 3 and STALKER were games that I tried but ultimately uninstalled because I never had fun in them.

STALKER isn't an RPG though. It's not even close. The only RPGish thing about it is you have an inventory.

In* some rpgs u have to learn the Orc language lol
STALKER is a great game, a mix of realism/futurism, I don't try it much bacause it take ages to load a level, isn't 100% fault of my old pc, the game engine acts like a resource whore :o

Which STALKER do you have? Clear Sky is a resource whore. It's poorly optimized. It also happens to be the worst STALKER game (still great though) Shadow of Chernobyl is fine and Call of Pripyat runs exceptionally well.

Clear Sky, sun rays(aka God Rays :P) & shadows are the main reason for slow downs on C.S.

What was I supposed to buy a singleplayer RPG for then...
The gameplay. You know, the main reason people play games. The vast environment. The exploration. It's not their fault you went in with the wrong expectations.

Post by: Alex on Saturday, June 09, 2012, 02:40:05 AM
I would argue that gameplay includes all aspects of the game, just because a game is in a genre doesnt mean that it cant have a great story. A decent story line makes me feel immersed in the universe. Fallout 3 had great gameplay, great exploration and an awesome story line. I was supposed to be DOVAHKIN but I just felt like a guy running around yelling at dragons. Lots of things in that game broke the immersion for me. I just slayed a dragon and I am being arrested for accidentally hitting someone in the battle? No thanks.
The combat in Skyrim is pretty mediocre, and at some time, simply bad. The fun I got out of it was exploring the world and doing the Guild quests like the Theives Guild and the Dark Brotherhood. It's fun sneaking into places, especially bandit camps.

Skyrim has many weak points, yet you can choose among thousands of mods to modify the entire game to suit your needs. Sure the combat model is many years old (it doesn't feel really different from Oblivion's one) and the story is quite poor.

p.s. just noticed Spanky modified his sig.
