Title: aa4 - the big game!
Post by: [SWISS]Merlin on Monday, March 30, 2015, 13:40:49 PM
hi all
there is another nice game you could join - it's called America's Army 4 - or Proving Ground.
the beta phase is almost at its end - there are many nice things on that final release.

come an try it - you will find me on [SWISS] - servers or account.

Wow! It is hard to believe it’s been more than a year already. A lot has changed between our initial beta version and the game we have following the release of RFI-4. Thanks to the community for the many, many hours playing and all the valuable feedback. We especially want to thank our dedicated Beta testing team who have donated hundreds of hours to the project.

Now we would like to take a moment to talk with you about the full release of the game.

RFI-4 was our last major update until launch and, aside from any critical bugs that might come up, the development team is focused on completing the game for release in the spring of 2015. However, you can still contribute! We will be hosting game-wide opt-in testing weekends, where you will be able to play and provide feedback on our pre-release features that are in development. Watch for details on that in the weeks to come.

Some of the items to look for with the full release include: demorec (server recording of gameplay), a Medic role, a complete in-game UI (including a server browser), a fully featured soldier progression system, alternative weapon skins and camouflage patterns, unique enemy weapons, a new and improved audio system, new maps, numerous performance optimizations and lots and lots of polish across the entire game.

Since the fully featured Soldier Progression System will change the way XP is earned and the rewards for completing challenges, all stats will start over when the beta ends. The old stats will still be available if you want to look back at what you or your friends have accomplished in the beta.

Thank you so much for your feedback and support over the last year. It’s been a great time, and it’s only going to get better!

:S i'm confused, i honestly thought you were among these players which weren't going to play AAPG (or any other game for that matter), but it's nice to see that people can play more than one game anyway.

AA2 is nothing like AA3 or AA4, not eaven the same developpers. So why give it the same name.

Because they thought they'd get all the players from earlier "versions".

no worries, I will call you when the final is out :D
then you can have a look at - maybe you still play minecraft then :)
but for me its the real alternative to this game. you can ask at least half of the admins here. they play more aa4 then aa2 :D

don't include me to that please.

There's a risk that with the game being available only on Steam, people might find out that other games exist aswell.

/sarcasm

Not you apparently. I got an estonian teammate btw, he's called Mikk. He also attends the university in Tallinn (biology).

I think I've played AA3 less than Halo or Counter-Strike, both games I hate entirely. Never even bothered to download AA:PG.

Cool. TUT or TU? Probably the latter, though.

Not really true, I've held back on the release on the AA2 maps for AAPG since the last release, and since they are cooked, they will not work with the last version.

I know I didn't have the permission needed to really remake the maps for AAPG, but you surely didn't have my permission to rebuild and release the maps for your self, please remove.

this was taken from the official aa4 pg umm. but no worries, if you don't want that I do play on them - you did them - so I will not play them. ok (but not because you have the copyright, no. this is to the America's army devs as you know).

but do remember, others can have power to do what almost they want. remember, not only admins in here. so start to be fair with ALL. it's time to do so NOW.

Since those seem to be the same files I've made available on steam, there has been no modification or rebuilding, so those I'm ok with.

As for AA dev having all the copyright, your are partially right, I've spent houndreds of hours adding lighmap UV's and collision meshes, to those they have NO copyright.

Most umm (custom maps) don't get played a lot, in AAPG, and its quite a shame because they're much better optimized (i believe Eliz did an impressive job there, both quantity and quality). I guess  the custom scene was much more alive back in AA2 thanks to the cooperative mode.

It did feel for me that the COOP part was the only custom maps people played really...
One reason was that the mission depot hardly let any map through.
Another reason was probably the same reason that people nowadays only play Hospital and Pipeline.

The official Mission Depot was abandoned after 2008-2009 i think. Ive rarely seen updated content added to it. They even cared so much for it, that they took it down in late 2011. So much content disappearing..

Unless you've made remakes (idea the same, but build from the ground and used your own content) you have no rights to these maps at all - does not matter how many hours you've spent modifying it / porting / making compatible.

Change is in the air…

With the full release of America’s Army: Proving Grounds fast approaching, we have a lot of exciting things going on. Here’s a look at some of the changes that you will start seeing soon.

New Forum

The first big change you will see is the new and improved forum!  We are changing our forum software to take advantage of single-sign-on (use your AA account to login to the forum, instead of a forum-only account).  This should get more people involved in discussions since you won’t have to create a new account and information from the forum can integrate with the website and game better than ever before.  The current forum will be archived and made available to read, but no new posts will be allowed.  We will let you know when the switch will be made in the next few weeks.

New Website

Our web team has been hard at work to bring you the most relevant AA information in a very cool way.  Expect the americasarmy.com website to look very different for the full release.

Stats and Scoring

After the full release, we will keep the stats from the beta available to view in your profile along with the new stats.  There will be less scoring events, new values for the number of points for each event and a new rank system that starts at E-1 Private and advances through E-9 Sergeant Major of the Army with 5 levels within each rank (except E-1 only has one level).  There will also be a host of new challenges for each weapon that will unlock optics and skins.

Opt-in Weekends

In the next few weeks we are going to begin testing new features and collecting feedback.  Our goal is to allow anyone that wants to test with us the option to opt-in to an early release.  It will only be available for a few days at a time as we collect feedback, scoring data and bug reports.  All scoring data will be reset at the end of each event and we will be hosting multiple events before the release.  Map creators should be sure to get in on these events because you can use them to update your maps and have them ready to publish right after the release.  Any sounds that were used in a map will have to be updated to the new package since all sounds have moved.

Aa4 is great i did play bit what upsets me more than game crash is the ammount of hackers playing. There is a guy from the early aa2 years playing there whit more chan 100 cheat reports in the fórum and nothing happens.
