Title: Radio Tower
Post by: GeorgeMac on Sunday, April 27, 2014, 16:05:39 PM
Back in the day Radio Tower was popular because folks didn't mind 10 minute rounds. It's unplayable for assault on 5 minute rounds, and 7 minutes, although doable by assault is rather long to keep folks attentions. So I have an idea for it.

Instead of 3 objs, what about one random obj for assault and 5 minute rounds? Any thoughts or comments?

The only problem I foresee is random spawns would have to mean open slots I guess, and if defence all spawned at A, assault could run to C quite easily. But the map is dead anyway as it's really a 10 minute map with full teams, so trying to make it a 5 minute map that's fair has to be worth discussing.

Ahh, Radio tower, it was a great map when you did not play against PTwars.

I think it might be a good idea. Like you said, C might be hard to reach for def, so perhaps make a new obj in the little house next to radio tower?

The main problem is that the attention span of most gamers lowered by a lot.

Yeah Bart, I hear you, but I think the magic is still there somewhere, just need to get the rounds down to about 5 minutes and still be fair to both sides. What if there were only 2 objs at A and B, or C was moved to those B ruins Ganja mentioned? 5 minute rounds and one random obj. Assault would still rush CP and it would still be fun for defence to hold it with the 203, and with only one obj it might make for some terrific CQB at the objectives. One obj would also prevent defence camping waiting for time to run out.

And the random objectives would then be either A or B I suppose? Since C is a lot harder to hold.

if you do change original maps, is it possible to make a new one with its changes?
like Radio Tower II ? without touching the original.

Nice suggestion by Merlin, as Radio Tower on 8 minute rounds with full teams who know the map still has the magic.

Oh I certainly agree on that, my personal viewpoint is that the original maps should always stay. Just like there is an esldusk and a dusk map. ESLdusk for competition, Dusk because it's the original map. That's just perfect in my view.

If you pub on radio tower nowadays, there is very little chance to do the 3 obj, and then defence is just going to wait in the tunnels of one of those, so you might run like a dog for 4 min to do 2 obj and get nubed in the last second cauz there's a motherfucker waiting for you since 4 minutes lol.

So:
And the random objectives would then be either A or B I suppose? Since C is a lot harder to hold.

Yes that's the idea.

If you can have weapons and slots open dependent on numbers of players, what about having objs open dependent on numbers of players? If there were only 8 players for example, only obj B is active, 9-12 players, A becomes active, once all the slots open then C becomes active. That might work.

It is definitely a good idea, but I'm not sure it's doable. Guess you'll have to wait for an admin to confirm

I don't know how doable that is. I suppose Killaman and Spanky have more knowledge on this matter.

It's more about how doable it would be for the map editors.

Played RT last night and what RTII really needs is a 5 minute fun gameplan. Simply disabling C and having A and B as random objs might do it.

I don't think that is possible. However, I'm not entirely sure. Hospital has a random open and close for the wings that seems to be closed more if player count is low. However, sort of random isn't good enough for objectives nor do I know if it would work for objectives and not just movers(doors.) I'll add it to my list and take a look at it eventually.

No worries and no hurries Killa, just trying to get some life back into a dead map that was once rocking :) I think anything more than 5 minute rounds these days kills a map, and RT can't be played at less than 7 minutes and even that gives defence an unfair advantage in that they can simply run away from objs when time runs down.

I like the idea but it can result in very unfair rounds, people tend to leave in middle of rounds as well.

another idea:
I did change now this server

[SWISS]ClanServer III - map vote, fairplay

for all to be accessible by admin rights. the spectator admin pass is:  aao25

so if anyone would like to change maps - with map vote or admin rights - he can do this. also to set the time and others as you like. just as another try to get more maps with more players. if this works, you can do it with official ones or others. a hope, a try, we can nothing loose, right ?

Hi Killa, with a Radio Tower II would it be possible to simply bin C, and have A and B as random objectives? I think it might be fun to limit such a server to 16 players and keep it to 5 minute rounds. It's getting the map down to fun five minute rounds that's important :)

I've never dealt with random objectives, but I'll add it to my list and take a look at it eventually.
