It's not a stupid idea in itself.
However, every time it comes up, the fact that we don't actually own the game also comes up. Technically redistributing the game as we're doing here is illegal.
So it is a rather delicate situation...

How did you guys acquire the auth system? Could you not somehow get the rights to distribute seeing as how they dropped support and the franchise is dead?

There was no "acquiring", it was just taken over by Assist+Battletracker because the official support was dropped. It's all unofficial. There has been some communication with some original developers where they said that what we're doing is technically illegal, but since we're not doing anything crazy to the game, they'd leave it be.
I don't think there's any way to get the official right to the game. We're talking about the US Army after all...

To get into more detail, the Assist authorization system has nothing to do with the original auth system that was shipped with America's Army. The original authorization system still exists in the game but the servers it talks to have been shut down for years. The Assist authorization system is a custom homemade solution to authorize players through Battletracker.com. It's code that was made by Crusade and Jonny years ago that is added into the game by Assist.

Its not a matter of advertising the game, many ppl know the game is available, just that there are plenty of options around or even ppl paranoid with us or cause they cannot have control over the player base anymore.
