Title: [Website] Homepage News Bug
Post by: Dialects on Wednesday, October 22, 2014, 20:06:35 PM
As you'll notice, whenever a news/article title exceeds a certain limit (probably set within the code itself) the title will overlap the rest of the column's content. It isn't that big of a deal but it is there -- this may also be an issue with low resolution computers such as the one I'm currently using.

Figured it was worth reporting any way. The grey boxes are only there as a mean to make it easy to understand what the issue is. Normally it won't show those grey boxes and will instead have the white text set for title eat away a few parts of the rest of the text within the content area.

Image below.

You're right Dan, it is a resolution issue. At 1920x1080, there is no wrapping.

That explains it then. Cheerios!

Even with 1680x1050 (my resolution), the first title does it.
I tried it with my other monitor and it's still there with 1920x1080. It's not eating up a lot of text, but if you know what you're looking for, it's there.

You can also just highlight it:

I'm going to let Jared mess with this if he see's it. He uses some fancy CSS compiler and I don't want to mess with that.

Another thing;

The website seems to be loading the mobile-version even though I'm loading it from my computer. I've tried refreshing the window, clear cache, various browser sizes, etc. I didn't notice this yesterday...did Jared tinkered around too much, perhaps? :)

It's not the mobile version. Since we have a lot of buttons at the top, it's just puts them all together when there's not enough space for them. Your monitor is just too small for the site :D

Bingo. Come on Dan, move into the 21st century for monitor sizes.

You're admin, just nip a few thousand for a new computer from the Assist donation pot and nobody will notice.

Is that why you forgot to give me Assist's Paypal info? You must be scared shitless that others find out how little money we've got left in it, eh? :)

It's fixed. Don't ask how, I wouldn't know.

For further reference, if any of you ever come across this issue, here's what I did:
- Stare at the browser for close to 60min.
- Finally give up, go do something else.
- Go to bed, sleep tight, don't think about it.
- Wake up next morning.
- Calmly turn your computer on, just as you would on any other day.
- Open your browser up, type 'a', let the browse fill-in the rest of the web address for you.
- Load the website. Look at it. Look again.
- IT'S FIXED.

You can thank me later.

If you were in fact talking about the Mobile first site that Jared was working on:
http://aao25.com/forum/ast8-dev/mobile-first-forum/ (http://aao25.com/forum/ast8-dev/mobile-first-forum/)

Then all you would have had to do was change the theme number from 10 to 9.

Like Teddy said, you can switch themes:
http://aao25.com/forum/index.php?theme=9 (http://aao25.com/forum/index.php?theme=9)  - full
http://aao25.com/forum/index.php?theme=10 (http://aao25.com/forum/index.php?theme=10)  - mobile

Like I said, I've done that already.

Jared told me the site automatically re-adjusts to the low-resolution theme if the computer/browser doesn't meet the min. requirements for the standard/high-resolution one.

What I don't understand is why it keeps bouncing back and forth from one to another although I haven't changed either the screen resolution nor the browser's size (both height and width).

It's a mystery.

Are you using Chrome? I find that when I first start up my computer and Chrome loads, the tab that's open shows normal size but when I switch to other tabs for the first time, the content switches real quick when I click on the tab. The only way I can explain it is that for whatever reason, the tabs that aren't open actually have a smaller viewport until I display that tab for the first time.

In your case, that may be the right size to trigger the mobile website. If you manually start the full size website, does it stay like that until you shut down your computer? You could also set your bookmark/tab with the URL of the normal size site so that it opens that way by default.

The same kind of think described in the opening post happens to the "[Unread]" button at "Recent Topics":(https://aao25.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FyKWMP70.jpg&hash=caaf747ac699ce0ab60385c788607e89)

PS.
Don't mind the low resolution, it's part of my (recently fixed :D) tablet on Windows 8.

There was a perfectly valid reason for doing that, don't worry.

Updated with a better screenshot.
