Title: Scrim cup
Post by: ronski on Wednesday, July 29, 2015, 15:16:49 PM
Anyone interested in taking a part on scrim cup? We are planning to set up a one day scrim cup event on this fall. The idea is to have 8 teams with four players on them, you can gather up and make your own dream teams.

Every team will have 1-3 matches, only winners are moving forward to next match. So it's like quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final. Games will be played at two servers and both servers has an admin keeping an eye on the match. On one match there'll be only one map and both teams plays 6 or 8 rounds on each side, first round will always be the planning round.

Each team will have randomly picked opponent on first round. The event includes seven matches, so admins of the event picks seven maps which are placed randomly on each match. So each map will be played only once.

So the team that wins all three matches will be the glorious winner of that days cup. We'll inform more closer but just to be curious, will we have eight teams playing this? Are you interested in having this kind of event? We're still planning this so a few detail may change but the basic idea is this.

Thanks guys, we really hope we get enough players to take a part in this. Since BCD is on Sunday evening, might the best day of week for this be Saturday, but we'll see. Seke clan with a few fellows can gather up even four teams for this, if there'll not be teams enough. If this event goes well and people are interested to have more, there'll be some.

And when the maps have been picked, they'll be informed here. Teams and maps per match will be drawn right before the event, so nobody can get an advantage of it.

I must admit I stopped reading here:

You'll get a really hard time gathering 32 players willing to scrim. Hell even 8 players sounds impossible nowadays.

Who knows, maybe I'm mistaken, and I'll gladly participate !

Thats true, but if it's going to be hard, we'll throw 16 guys in.

Edit. I knew you would be in ;)

If people spread the word we can get to 8 teams but if not then 3vs3 or less teams. Not everyone reads forum so it would be nice that "advertising" would be done in-game also  ;)

It is a great idea !

I think its best to start a small event rather than a big one since it is the first one.. maybe 4v4 would be too much at this point in time since there aren't a lot of guys playing at the moment (being summer and such).

Some advertisement as galle said is very important so I suggest we spread the word and if possible make a popup on assist.

A date has to be decided well beforehand, let's say like 4 weeks prior so people are informed well enough about the event.

Maps that could be played should also be decided before so that people can actually train on them - it is useless to have a pandora's box where all maps can be used for the scrims.. imo its best to choose a range of maps (let's say 10 maps) and the scrims are based on this range.

Next query is server availability and where the scrims will be played. Will it be a couple of servers where an admin is readily available?

Lastly, the event type..imo knockout type is the best.

It'll be on this fall and the date will be like four weeks ahead from date when the invitation has been published. The invitation includes information of maps that will be used.

Games will be played on two servers at the same time, and there'll be admins on all the time.

Nah its just a poll about are you interested or not. If yes, are you already part of already collected team or not. So it's not the invitation, only asking about your interests around this.

Keep spreading the word and tell your friends that this kind of event will be coming. Make your own teams and teamless players write about it here so you can be picked up to some team.

For now it seems that we'll pick these 10 maps and from these will seven maps be drawn for to use in matches:

Mout McKenna
Farm Raid
Weapons Cache
Urban Assault
Insurget Camp
SF Courtyard
SF Sandstorm
SF CSAR
SF Blizzard
SF Old Town

Some of these may still change, but most of them will be used.

Thanks to John_Wayn3 I now know what you meant with this, old noob dog learnt new trick. That would be an awesome idea for its own event. On certain time everyone willing to play joins same ts channel from where two captains picks their teams and teams take separate ts channels. Could be fun!

Can I suggest a few things:

First, Collapsed Tunnel is missing.. CT is a must :p

Secondly, decrease the amount of SF maps:
- many people dislike SF Maps
- normal weapons offer a better challenge than SF
- some players wouldn't be able to play SF maps owing to fps problems

Thirdly, just a suggestion, both teams pick a map themselves like what we did way back in TWL.

oh and please make this after 16th September..

Thanks for these. Some detail may still change, that was the first version of maplist. Its important that you bring your opinions here, we really are listening to you guys. Its true what you said; some people dislike SF maps, but some people likes them too :)

The main idea was to play one map per match, which would be picked randomly from maplist. We need to think about this a little bit.

We're having already 21 teamless players being interested to join. So guys if you're not yet on any team, do like Ganja did and write about it here so you can match up with each other easier. If your team would like to take scrims already, contact us and let's fix a date. We're doing scrims every week.

Interested but can't do it if it's EU servers as I play from Japan and would be getting at least 300 ping. neXus occasionally scrims teams whenever other teams actually want to.

The event can't be done over continents, like you said - ones ping would otherwise be horrible. Since we're a clan from Finland, with our recourses we can set up this event for EU players only. But like I wrote earlier, if some of american clans would like to make this one to be possible for players who plays on american servers, we would love to work together in this.

Whoaa I now realised the amount of people interested in! Dudes start making your teams! 65 players would make 16 teams :D Eight fastest registrees will be in, we have already two teams signed in. Remember that each team can have extra members for just in case.

The actual invitation is here:

Actually I didn't even know that it's possible to answer these polls from elsewhere than forum :)

"Are you interested to join this event if schedule works for you?" Not quite informative, and none of the answers either tells what event they'd be voting for :D

I think the actual poll isn't informative enough that you could answer to it without reading what its all about. Voting without having a look into it would be just stupid, people who's interested enough about polls in Assist are clever enough to read about them more carefully.

I'll try to remember to make next poll more informative :)

ps. Oh I can see some stats about this, it says that 12 members have voted, so 68 out of 80 have come from Assist..

Alright I just understood how this tournament was going to happen. It all hapens the same day, didn't realize this before. Isn't it possible to make it last  few more days ? And make the teams arrange their match date themselves? I know for exemple that I can't be home on the 26, so there's no chance for me to play?

well.. we've been talking all the time about having one day lasting event.. When we started to plan this and informed about this for the first time, even you were suspicious will we have 8 teams playing this. It was hard to arrange scrims back then, now you are able to see scrims played every day :)

Lets play this one as a one day event like it was all the time going to be, after the event we'll figure out the next one.

Allright fellas, the event is about to come on next Saturday starting at 6:00pm CEST. Match pairs will be drawn on friday evening and they'll be informed straight away here - so stay tuned. On event we're going to use TS channels provided by ts.aao25.com, there can be found Events section which has subfolders such as Scrim Events and under that can be found Lobby channel and channels for each team per match. If you have something to ask, you can write it on this topic, you can pm me here or you can join our ts: lonke.ro:6666. I'll try to hang out on ts.aao25.com too.

Remove a 5 from there :)

I'm not organizing this, but if I were, I wouldn't make it mandatory for everyone to be on the same TS, but I would make it mandatory that someone of each team be on the joint TS for easy communications (you can be on multiple TS's at the same time and hear what's being said on both).

Hehe correct there is one extra 5 on it.

Valid point, that would solve the problem of available capacity in channel. But if some team is already using one channel on ts.aao25.com, are they able to join on multiple channels on same server?

when will we know the maps to be played?

On friday evening when the draw will be made :) You'll get info against who are you going to play on which map. This tool (http://susirajavolley.com/sce/) will give us the info which teams are facing each other on first round and even on which map the match will be played. So basically I click the button once and take a screenshot of it, and publish it here.

Just use the same tool to calculate the results as well :)

Looks nice, though!

And yes, ronski, you can be connected to the same server twice as well.

Hehe, while looking at playerlist of any team I would prefer calculating those results than actually facing them at the field, way better changes to go trough :D

We have to rethink the usage of ts then, I'll come back with it later.

I knew that would come up, hell no I don't want to face your team! :D Any of admins willing to click the button and share the screenshot here? :)

We're about to use 1st person view for spectators as in it will work, its a bit buggy. So using it prevents ghosting enough.

edit: actually I was so sure that you'd be bringing that one in :D

And in any decent scrim I've ever played, only first person view was used...

I was talking about taking a screenshot of results that are drawn with the tool I made, it gives you completely random results, if the drawn was made and screenshot was taken buy someone who is not playing at the tournament at all and who everyone trusts it would be fair for everyone.

Oh, so you want someone that's not you to take a screenshot and then post it here to get a "neutral" result for the set?

I'm sure that can be arranged :)

Indeed, then there is no word against drawn results, they are the way they are. I hope East71 teams wont face each other on first round, and the same for seke teams :)

Okay so match pairs are now there. Tomorrow ( Saturday 26th August ) at 18.00 CEST will the first round begin. Timetable looks like this:

Match 1 18:00 CEST @ SCE SERVER 1:
INCEPTION vs DOG ASS SUCERS in Insurgent Camp

Match 2 18:00 CEST @ SCE SERVER 2:
EAST71 ESPORTS 1 vs SEKE 1 in Weapons Cache

---

Match 3 19:00 CEST @ SCE SERVER 1:
SEKE 2 vs EAST71 ESPORTS 2 in SF Sandstorm

Match 4 19:00 CEST @ SCE SERVER 2:
=PUF= vs WATNC in Collapsed Tunnel

--

Semifinal 1 20:00 CEST @ SCE SERVER 1:
Winner of match 1 vs Winner of match 2 in SF CSAR

Semifinal 2 20:00 CEST @ SCE SERVER 2:
Winner of match 3 vs Winner of match 4 in JRTC Farm Raid

--

Final 21:00 CEST @ SCE SERVER 1:
Winner of Semifinal 1 vs Winner of Semifinal 2 in Urban Assault

--------

We decided to add one more minute to round times, some of these maps needs it. So each round on each map will take max 4mins. Timetable above is made approximately, if everything goes well, it should be possible that this timetable will work. So planning round + six rounds on each side, 12 rounds will be played, no matter if the result is clear after seven rounds or not. If game is tied after 12 rounds, teams will take one sudden death round in Poolday, which is equal from both spawn point of views. Please be patient if your match is not starting on exact minute because of earlier match, it'll start soon. Each team makes sure that there are four players ready for the match when their match starts.

ts.aao25.com provides TS Channels for this use, your whole team can come over there when it's your teams time to play, or then just team captain, but it's important that there is at least one player of each team who can be contacted as quickly as needed. For this use mentioned last you don't need a mic, all conversation can be done by typing too. If you are not using Team Speak yet, download Team Speak client from http://teamspeak.com/ (http://teamspeak.com/). If you have issues in installing or using TS, send me a PM and I'll try to help.

Note that passwords will be given in ts to avoid outsiders connecting the server while matches are on.

1) theere will be tomorrow two servers online in tournament mode and password on, SCE SERVER 1 & SCE SERVER 2. SCE comes simply from Scrim Cup Event.
2) you have had at least 1,5months time to collect players on your team to be sure you have at least four players ready when the match begins. If you are now in situation where you have only three guys joining, please try to find one.

Yes and 1.5 months is too much. When someone told me 1.5 months ago he'll be there tomorrow, you can never be sure can you? If we can handle a 3v4 against PUF on tunnel, is that allowed?

Play with three then if you cant find the fourth one. I hope rest of teams will have enough players.

In future I guess we need to concider teams having min. ten players in team to avoid situations like this. </sarcasm>

This is the first event of this kind that we are making, this is kind of pilot projct of larger scrim tournament where teams will settle together the best time of week for their matches etc.

it has nothing to do with the long time before the event was gonna happen.

I am speaking for the other guys that unfortunately real life commitments come first.

For my part I just wrote it down in my calendar and skipped a night out to make this event happen but not everyone has that luxury.

I hope that nobody else would forfeit because it would be a shame.

yes and imagine this way: if we set up a event and say the date for it will be week or two from this day. Some may have spare time but some doesn't, they say after three weeks would be better or maybe after four. And even then when they sign in ( leaving people out who were willing to join but couldn't fit in anymore ) they might have suddenly something better to do. Its just a game of course, but Im not glad of this that we're making a event for players and they show their gratitude like this.

The thing is that next there'll be a real tournament which lasts for weeks. The organizer decides which teams are playing against each other and on which week, but teams will fix the date together, they pick the time they find is the best. The same kind of tournament can be organized to US too, if there are enough interested teams.

It's by playing other maps that you learn the game. I don't want to sound rude but I think everyone would be "klass2" because nobody plays competition as well as they did back in the day. Only a couple of active players have some basic tournament tactics

Post by: ronski on Monday, September 28, 2015, 17:34:50 PM
The next one will be more like a league, where teams will decide together with opponents when they will face each other, they can pick any time that works for them best from decent week or - days. Teams will be divided to groups, and teams will play twice against each other inside the group. We're keeping scoreboard from all the data we can collect, basically it means that from victory you get for example two points and if match ends like 6-6 both teams gets one point. But then we could update a scoreboard from kills and deaths too. After every team have played twice against each team in group starts playoffs, where teams will play several matches and for example best out of three or five will go forward.

The real planning process hasn't even started yet, but we're going to have nice long lasting tournament :)
Title: Re: Scrim cup
Post by: Ganja on Tuesday, September 29, 2015, 05:04:07 AM
This would be a mix between a league and a tournament. Sounds fun.

Like you noticed for the first event, people say they will play but don't show up. That's how it's always been in the cups that were made since Assist is popular. People come and go and don't stay long enough to finish a tournament and it makes it noncool ... Hope this is going to be different.
Title: Re: Scrim cup

That's why one requirement to be able to join might be having own server what to use.

we should write a script that everyone signs up as players, and each weekend it picks teams, and matches. So each weekend you play with new people vs new teams.

I dont know about numbers but as in cup we had, every team has at least one server what to use. For this long tournament what we're planning we cant provide a server that everyone could use when the time is best for them, therefore if they have own server fixing match date would be so much easier since it's basically free to use like 24/7.

we should write a script that everyone signs up as players, and each weekend it picks teams, and matches. So each weekend you play with new people vs new teams.
We could have scrim draft event lets say for example on every tuesday. People joins on same ts and chooses captains for teams who picks then one by one members on their teams on their turn.

That would be the best solution in my eyes. Teams might not always be fair, but it's plenty of fun, and noobies might learn something being in a team with someone experienced.
