I mean is this an option anymore? I mean, AA really isn't the same anymore, and it would be great to have some type of competition on 2.5, even if it's for sh*ts and giggles. I still have my old league script, and I have a domain I can run it on. So the question really is, is this something we really want to do?
-
There are some leagues and stuff for the EU side of things. There was more last year I guess.
The most recent of these is http://fun-league-community.com/ (http://fun-league-community.com/) and I think it just finished it's season.
I really don't think there is anything for the NA side, though, and I don't know whether the player base for such a thing exists in the NA side.
-
the most popular tournaments for aa2 are here to find:

They are not per se popular, you could better say that they are the only one who still survived.
Their ruleset are in my opinion still not fitting with competitive format in general (spamrules, too high roundtimes, etc).
But they are not bad either, I just think it could be optimized more. The problem with that tournament is that there are too many ways to get cheap rounds by the rules. For example shooting in setup round will give round to the opponent (well, that's definitely a round they deserve...?)
-
as always you are right Bart! :)
-
What I am thinking of is to have a One-Day Cup where teams are chosen randomly with everyone that is signed up, like how things were done in the past. And then go from there. Do it once a month, and host the information on my tournament script. And if there is enough NA presence to do a more formal tournament, then we can go from there.

Ya the NA player base seems dead

What if the main clans decide to create a tournament together and everyone sees how it goes from thereon.
I hv been back for a month or so and noticed that the amount of clans isn't that high and the same number of clans crop up on the servers.
If nobody revamps the "system" the AA scene will probably die.
Everyone has to be committed in this and we can always start from somewhere and hope that it leads to something bigger.

Hey man,
there has been several attempts already to create a little league for Assist, like the Fun League Community, which was started by 2 HT members. But there doesn't seem to be such a great interest in scrims and matches. Half of the teams, even more probably, went forfeit because they weren't active anymore or because they claimed others were cheating or for any other reasons.
Ofcourse I'm all in for another attempt, but why would it work now .. The FLC cup is still not finished (our team is on the good way to win it btw) but nobody even cares anymore, even the FLC admins became passive about it and moved on to BF4 ...
If you have any ideas to get old players back (and keep them active) and organize another tournament, go ahead and try :)

Almost fell off my chair. :D
Seems like 'gg' gets another meaning ;)

It is true ... IGC acusing Kz of hacking. SWISS accusing Impact of using unfair advantages. Clans that don't scrim take the initiative to sign in, what I find extraordinary, but then they ragequit, which is sad :(

Yeah I remember the old days. Yes, I'm an old school player, and I understand what people were complaining about back then. And it seems like people are still complaining about it today. What I'm purposing to offer is a league system (not ladder because ladders are a pain in the ass) where people can come together and play in matches that they want to play in.
What I would like to do is have a One-Night Cup, like back in the "olden" days. Everyone comes together in a Teamspeak server and we have captains choose their teams. If we expand from there, I would like to do a 3v3 team league, and we can move on from there. This is for shits and giggles, nothing more. If, by some miracle, we expand from there, then we can talk about more serious competitions.

Why don't you try bring Tidi back, and start a league?
With two such professional and respectable players like you, i feel it could be an instant success, and would help aao25 to develop.
-
Sure, I'll stick a shovel up his ass and make him play. ;)
If some cup or league starts we'll play in it. If I get some help from the most respectable and experienced, sarcastic, one map, one side, one tactic player who thinks he knows everything about this game with iknowyoucheat attitude it must be a great success.

What is DeSBL?
-
It's a German league.
http://www.desbl.de/index.php?page=Portal (http://www.desbl.de/index.php?page=Portal)
-
Only the page is in german, but teams are not german only ...
I must say it's a pain in the ass to register a team on this site, but then the matches are cool
-
Unfortunately i did not keep any contact with players from the old days.
In my opinion, and i stand to be corrected, AA isn't popular. New guys think it's just a COD-style pubbing game, whilst competitive players who played a couple of years ago probably don't know that AA is still up and more user-friendly than it was before.
Us older guys know how competitive AA can be and how fun it is playing competitively. It seems that the new players sort of need a push to enter competitive mode coz the majority are all camping and doing the same thing round over round which is boring and they will get bored and stop playing entirely.
What if we sort of scrap the clan-system for the time being and start something new with the players we have and those that are willing to participate?
Hence I second razordenial on his thought.
This is my opinion.

What is DeSBL?
Im making a mixteam now for this league, if you are interested PM me.
-
Nice, DeSBL uses the same script that I have for a League script. Right now, I'm in the process of tweaking the site, but it will be hosted here http://www.flanknet.com/league/ (http://www.flanknet.com/league/) Please do not register just yet until I finish my tweaks.

You did already try this. Oldschools come back but don't stay active very long,, sadly

That was because we had no clear leader and I wasnt too active either sometimes.

hey my friend
just for the record. swiss had in one year 79 scrims, this isn't that bad, right? :)

No it's nice, but scrims are not matches, not the same 'adrenaline' :)
-
I doubt we had more than 10 scrims, the vast majority of them were matches.
I might be wrong, though.
-
Doesn't really matter, the thing is you stopped playing the FLC reason, whatever reason it was. That's how it works for most teams there, I guess there are only 2 or 3 teams active, which is sad.
Even ew said they were recruiting for doing more matches, but after all they are unactive again on FLC ...
That's how it works nowadays, a team remains active a few weeks max
-
let us have some surprises ganja, you never know what happened. like this evening, right?
just great, I am really surprised - from all parts of Europe. incredible for me, but as you can see - everything is possible.
so lets give everything a chance - and maybe you will be surprised in a positive way :)

The only thing I dislike from DESBL at this point is that they do not listen to the community when picking maps.
I mean I dont know many teams who enjoy playing recon for example, I'd rather have mountain ambush, border, mountain pass (SE), river basin, so many better long distance maps to choose from :P.
-
the league has started, the maps are:
HQ_Raid 5 min
Border 6 min
SF Courtyard 6 min
Radio Tower 7 min
SF Extraction 6 min
SF Arctic 6 min
SF Water Treatment 6 min
Mountain Ambush 6 min
SF Hospital 6 min
Dusk 5 min
SF Sandstorm 6 min
SF Csar 5 min
SF Oasis 6min
Bridge SE 7 min
-
except for courtyard, I think its a pretty good list.
-
There's something wrong with the time right?
6 minutes on sandstorm, courtyard ? And only 1 more minute for radio tower?
-
Radio tower isn't doable in 7 mins. If defense has a pushed out line of defense, defending CP and right hill by radio tower, it'll take atleast 3-4 mins for assault to push forward. Let alone push C is impossible if defense plays it smart. TWL tried having 7 mins for opening week of the intermediate leauge week 1 or 2, they were forced to raise the time to 10 mins. It's the biggest map in the game, with the obj's furthest apart. So raise the time to 10 mins to get the most out of the map imo. (which is right)

since 2007 desbl (earlier aabl) always had the full mappool with all official maps, which was approved by the community. at the moment there is no community left. there are also no discussions in the forum, because most teams are not german-speaking anymore.
key of their success was the bundesliga-system and to be close to the community. most clans wanted to have fun and not a high level competition. thats why there are all these rules: spamrules etc., list of disallowed bugs, also fastswap was not allowed. like that, all the fun-clans had a chance to compete on a fairplay-basis. thats also why the aa-section of this league survived as long...
changing it, will only make it die sooner than later...like all the other inconsistent projects.
-
but if both teams do agree, you can set the time to whatever you like

Looks like it's SFmaps league. Who is an admin over there? :D It's obvious there are some cool maps for competition, but...
1. Playing Hospital is ridiculous. It's not enough for you ???
2. Extraction is simply dumb, because of that one particular spawn.
3. Oasis is way one-sided, should be replaced by some other map, eg. Insurgent Camp
4. Maptimes are fucked up. HQ 5min? 4 is more than enough. SS 6 min? Looks like someone likes to crawl :D 3-4... , Dusk the same. On Radio Tower as Ares said if def is good and goes CP and DP, assault is in deep sh...
I'm surprised. On some maps times are much too long, on some other are too short. Does anybody out there who make maplist know what it is about?
5. Where is river basin or mountain pass?
6. Why no one ask people who will play in it about the maplist? It's funny after all.

I think all of those maps are good picks...except Extraction. Extraction is literally the worst competition map in the game as it's basically complete luck since the spawn system is so poor.
-
I do try to repeat:
you can fix whatever you want with the other team. ever you can play another map I guess. both teams have to say ok for whatever, then you can go.
there is a set of rules from DESBL I did read, about 20 pages.
so no one has to join this league, but if you do, you should follow the rules, which are not that much - except you have a noob team on the other side which would like to go through every paragraph of its rules.
I like DESBL because they do organize always seasons for aa2 - still they do. and this is very good (thanks to gray for this).
-
I'd take out hospital and 6 mins for sandstorm is way OTT. Never liked CSAR for comp as it is one of the easiest maps to defend.
-
Okay, so I said screw it, and purchased a website script for competitive purposes. This script has a ladder system embedded into it, along with a league script. Is there an interest in doing an AAO2.5 Ladder? And if so, would it be 2v2, 3v3 or more? Serious thoughts on this please.
-
For ladder 4v4: I dont think there are enough teams. Tournaments however could be good!
-
if friends played in a team its doable, but with a clan vs clan system it would end up like DESBL = many forfeit matches
-
Onenightcups and drafts is what we are missing at this point.
Almost every evening only the dutch players got at least 8 people on. We could use this and get some more people to come in, make mixteams and with that a one night draft tournament.
This is what we need for activity in the matchscene. Long term tournaments is not main priority now. We need drafts and onenightcups for activity.
