Title: Windows 8 nil exception on startup
Post by: ohscawet on Sunday, May 13, 2012, 07:56:10 AM
Hi,
when I'm traying to run 25Assist on Windows 8 CP build 8250 x64, I've got "An exception of class NILobjectExceptipn was not handled".

I think Windows 8 isn't supported yet, and since it wasn't released the final version it might take a while. You will have to try another OS until it gets supported.

So maby you can give me authorization algorithm. I will write my own game starter.

I doubt that will happen. Maybe by working with Pit, you two can narrow down the issues with it.

Program is coded in RealBasic. Sources are available on SourceForge. Have fun.

There is no any source

Really? Did you try this:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/aa25assist/files/Source/

I found that in a few clicks.

You mean those files matching ".*\.rbp"?
omg, i know ther basic is shity language, but that is amazing.
RESPECT for peoples writing in something like that

Apart from the name, reałbasic don't have much common with the classic old basic you seem to write about. It's not my favourite languge, but it's definitely not shitty.

It's not about what language is best, Jonny chose RealBasic because it was easy to set things up AND it was cross-platform. He had no coding experience prior to Assist. Kind of amazing that an average player stepped up one day and decided to create a program like that.

Actually it is amazing. Sometimes people just don't appreciate enough the work people have so they can have some fun. My respect to Johny (https://aao25.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ptwars.com%2Fforum%2Fimages%2Fsmiles%2Fbow.gif&hash=787d3241157aab53b055802c58067bb7)(https://aao25.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ptwars.com%2Fforum%2Fimages%2Fsmiles%2Fmosh.gif&hash=66d0aac9414fe1373b1f590a8361690c)

windows 8 (beta) is out already? is it as shitty or shittier than 7?

The code that generates the Hardware ID and the login verification/encryption protocol will never been released, Only me and Pit have seen it.
You best solution would be to work with pit to get assist working on windows 8.

The beta isn't out yet. They put out the developer preview (to get software devs to write their apps for Metro) and then they put out the consumer preview which has 90% of the UI features done. I'll give you an idea of how much I dislike it; people hated Vista but I liked Vista. I hate Windows 8. Without derailing this thread, there's plenty of videos on YouTube about it.

I think windows has had its day now.
People have much more choice over there computing platform these days and they won't forget the 15 years of shit windows has given them.

Hi,
I've got working authourization algorithm, so im giving you last chasne to send me orginal :)

ZOMG GIVE HIM EVERYTHING HE WANTS OR WE R TEH DOOMED!!!!!!!

*EDIT*
Looks like you do have it working:
Quote
[AA25] KICK Petrol.92 Unauthorized Log-in (-) 91.150.221.28
[AA25] KICK Petrol.91 Unauthorized Log-in (-) 91.150.221.28

You have 4 computers, 2 of which are Linux-based. What's your deal? Why are you so interested in getting Assist on Windows 8 or cracking the auth algorithm to blackmail us?

Obviously the tablet didn't come with Windows 8 so why MUST you use it? How the hell do you plan on playing AA without a keyboard and mouse?

Because windows 7 sucks on tablet, and windows 8 is so Perfect!
i playing with usb mouse & keyboard

And i think that in 6 months windows 8 coming out on notebook and pc. I think it is better to correct the assist and allow all users will have windows 8 to play with Americas Army.

I really want that AA Back!

I pretty sure windows 8 on a tablet runs on an ARM processor and AA is an X86 binary so will not work. In fact all windows apps ever made will not work on windows8 tablet or phone, Good luck microsoft competeing with the already well established Apple IOS and Google Android, They should just stick to making desktop PCs for office use IMO.

The Consumer preview edition (that i've installed on my tablet) of windows 8 is X86. i think i'll never buy an ARM edition because i bouight this tablet for use as Computer and i want install everything that i can install in the normal pc or notebook !

I will try to prepare a test build this week, that will dump some additional exception info. I will ask you then to run it, and provide the results.

Punkbuster has dropped support for AA2 which means no more PB updates, Could be a problem.

I've tested my script on Windows 8CP, it works. The problem is difrent now. PunkBuster dont know windows 8 yet.

What happens exactly? Crash?

PunkBuster is kicking from server, cause of "unknown windows api function"
Johny, it is global pb problem, so it should be fixed soon.

Same thing happen when Windows 7 came out. We need to wait...

No it won't, the punkbuster in aa2 will not be included in any future updates. Look on evenbalance website, aa2 no longer exists.

Linux will be the only way to play aa2.

The best thing about linux is people wont be able to dll inject hacks. Linux does not have dll,s and hackers wont bother to learn hacking a new os for an old game.

true, but Steam is coming to Linux, I think that this will attract hackers to linux lol

Interesting, looks like valve are fed up with windows and are looking to move to linux... http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=valve_linux_dampfnudeln&num=2
I always dreamed this day would come, shame i dont have a desktop pc anymore, i think when HL2 comes to linux i will have to get another one.

:D Newell should also try to get HL3 out some time in the future...it's reaching the same await that was behind latest Duke Nukem episode. Btw Half Life 2 runs as a breeze even on very low powered notebooks.

Listening to Gabe Newell talk about Linux for hours made me wonder whether he was a former ex-Microsoft employee (where he actually did work in his pre-Valve days in the 90's) or the director of the Linux Foundation.

Just a word on HL2...

This is pure win and anybody that's played HL2 should re-play it with this:

I don't know how PB works. If it's Windows' compatibility is based per-game and not globally then Windows 8 won't support AA. It depends first on what PB does to remedy the Unknown Windows API Function issue.
