I am running fedora core 18 x86_64.

Is that x86 or x64? I tried Centos x64 and Debian x64 and both failed, even installing 386 packages, i think you need a x86 linux version to work proper.

Both.

The x86_64 is a 64bit extension of the 32bit x86.

It would be nice if someone could fix this. I have 16GB of mem so I can't have 32-bit os. Srsly it's 2013. I have all i686 libraries and packages but still it does not work.

Sure you can.
It just won't address the remaining 12GB.

Seriously the game was created 10 years ago.

Sorry, my bad.
Thought the game itself was meant.
