Delete settings.dat in your Assist folder and try again. SourceForge was having some issues, that might be what's going on for you.

I'm having the same issue.

I have just installed the client on a macbook (Downloaded from sourceforge).

The launcher tries to download a package (7za-mac), pops an error and closes the client.

Some screens:

yes exactly that is what happens - thanx AtumTTG for the screenshots
I download it from this page - on the top Downloads -
then download game client Windows
I had the same Problem when game was still installed (only showed Version 8.18)
I thought maybe a complete reinstall would solve the issue , but ......
don't know what to do

Open up your Settings.dat in a good text editor (Notepad++) and change line 71 to "AAO25.com" without the quotes.

Line 71 was "Sourceforge", replaced it with "AAO25.com" and the error persists.

Forgot to add, when you click OK on the "Failed to verify" (Last screenshot), this error pops up:

Edit: I'm using a Macbook. I'm not sure if those errors appear on Linux/Windows. If someone could confirm it would be nice.

Nope, that is not related to the error itself.

Maybe this error showed up on my client because I'm on a different OS than you are.

SourceForge is having some issues with their servers, and assist client depends on their service to download game dependencies.

The client is popping those weird errors because it is not treating network messages properly. The only thing that we can do is wait for the admin to modify the client, or to SourceForge become stable again and hopefully make the client work as intended.

Ok Thanks Unholy_ghost and Lord-of-War for the reply.

Aparently this last error message is OSX-specific. If there are any other Mac user who could test it would help the admin to find and treat the error asap.

So you're positive this isn't an error on my side of things then?

Sounds like there's different errors going on here. My recommendation was to change the line "Sourceforge" to "AAO25.com" in the settings.dat to hopefully switch data verification servers from Sourceforge (which is having problems) to here. Beyond that, I'm not sure what to recommend since you guys are doing a clean install.

Give this a shot:

Yea, atleast 3 people are having this issue also, and on different OSes. The only thing that we can do is wait for a fix.

Ok, thanks Spanky for the reply. If you could upload this standalone assist client as a torrent file it would be nice. I'm getting low download speed from that server heh.

I could do it as a torrent but I would be the only one connected and you'd likely get worse speeds.

However, if you use that link and then substitute your system folder for the one you need here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/aa25assist/files/Data/

That may just work.

well, I downloaded from the alternative link - still got the ype html> error and deploy can't find  any Servers at all
ERROR CONTACTING 2.5 ASSIST SERVER!
UNABLE TO GET ANY SERVER LISTS
I did replace the system folder and replaced Sourceforge with AAO25.com
Maybe cause it still is Version 8.18 and not 8.19 - there is no autoupdate to latest
Version 8.19

Don't know what to do anymore - will the sourceforge Problem be solved soon ?

It seem that the problems that source forge had forced them to roll back the files like they were a long time ago. That means that the application you download right now is 8.18

Here is the 8.19 Manual download:

Windows
https://www.dropbox.com/s/hvxbgzbfz9r2bqv/25Assist.zip?dl=0 (https://www.dropbox.com/s/hvxbgzbfz9r2bqv/25Assist.zip?dl=0)

Linux:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/rz4k7314t2v7osy/25Assist-Linux.zip?dl=0 (https://www.dropbox.com/s/rz4k7314t2v7osy/25Assist-Linux.zip?dl=0)

Mac:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/705zfv8zfxe878g/25Assist.app.tar.gz?dl=0 (https://www.dropbox.com/s/705zfv8zfxe878g/25Assist.app.tar.gz?dl=0)

I'm unsure what other problems might occur since the rolled back the files, and it's unknown if they will roll back or not, all I know is that we don't have access at the moment to upload new files to sourceforge

Lord-of-War, atleast the file that Spanky posted solved half of your problems, now you can open up your client without it crashing or giving errors.

I'm not sure if the server listing error is related to the launcher version (8.18) in the alternative download. It could be, because there are people (http://aao25.com/servers/ (http://aao25.com/servers/)) playing right now.

The file that Spanky posted only works on Windows. There is no binary executable for Linux/Mac. I've downloaded the alternative files + the official launcher (Mac-version) directly from the main page and extracted them in the same directory. When I've opened up the launcher, it detected that I had previously downloaded the game files and prompted me to change the installation directory. I did it, but when it finishes loading, the client gets stuck in the same error as before, it tries to download 7za-mac because it was not included in alternative file bundle. So now I'm stuck.

As my last resource, I've downloaded the 7zip source code from (http://p7zip.sourceforge.net/ (http://p7zip.sourceforge.net/)) and compiled it. It creates some files and a 7za executable. I've renamed it to 7za-mac and copied it to the Data/ folder in the alternative download. When I launch the client, it still not recognizing it and prompts me to download the (same..?) file.

Pipez0r or UnH0Ly_Gh0sT, as you guys are using linux, you could test if this setup works out:
- Install p7zip from your package manager (sudo apt-get update -y && sudo apt-get install p7zip)
- Download AAO25 official assist client for Linux (http://sourceforge.net/projects/aa25assist/files/Binaries/25Assist-Linux.zip/download (http://sourceforge.net/projects/aa25assist/files/Binaries/25Assist-Linux.zip/download))
- And the alternative standalone AAO25 from Spanky (http://aao25.com/forum/support/alternate-download-for-assist/ (http://aao25.com/forum/support/alternate-download-for-assist/)).

Extract them in the same folder and follow the same steps that I did. If it works please post the results.

Lord, The SourceForge problem is not related to the AAO Assist team, you can check their status at: https://twitter.com/sfnet_ops (https://twitter.com/sfnet_ops)

They've posted an article about the downtime on their site: http://sourceforge.net/blog/sourceforge-infrastructure-and-service-restoration/ (http://sourceforge.net/blog/sourceforge-infrastructure-and-service-restoration/)

The only thing that we can do is wait for it to become stable again.
