I changed my username, but Assist wont let me play coz my new username is more than 20 characters. I can't change it in battletracker until 24 hours. What do I do?

This. I would love for Battletracker to put the character limit on their site but I don't see that ever happening.

Where is the actual limit? Is it in Assist? Does Assist limit it because it's limited in-game?

limit is 20, as it was in old AA system, now the limit is enforced by Assist. PunkBuster will kick anyone with a name cointaning less than 3 characters or more than 23 (remember the 01 that the game add to ur name when you reconnect and the server didn't kicked you b4 you joined).

So, the limit was brought over from the old AA auth system, back when Assist had it's own account system but not authorization. Seeing the limitation is in Assist, can't it be removed or raised? I wonder what the limit on BattleTracker is...

Well it could probably be removed, but there's a reason such a limit exists.
If you make a 20 character name consisting of only capital 'M's then it will fill the entire name column in the score section completely. What would happen if the name would be longer? Maybe it would write over the separator? Maybe it would hide the last part? I just don't know, but it doesn't seem like a good idea.

Probably the same thing that would happen with the icons and 100 honor accounts.
Remember, the GUI was made way back when before widescreen monitors were mainstream. Things have changed and the GUI has gotten stretched.

Why would we want to allow usernames with over 20 characters anyways? That's just too damn long.

Well I have a 16:10 (which is considered widescreen) monitor and when I had a name of 20 capital "M"s, there was no extra space in the column.

To overcome BattleTracker's shortcomings. If there is a reasonable limit like 30 on BT then we could do that but if it's 50, we should think about something else. How often do you need to see the players full username anyway? If you do, that's what playerlist in the console is for if you're an admin.
That's just too damn long.
