Title: Failed to verify vital components
Post by: dude2 on Monday, December 09, 2024, 13:53:29 PM
Hello,
Trying to install aao25 on my new computer. Unfortunately on launch it gives me an error that says, "Failed to verify vital components, Please check your internet connection and write permissions to the assist folder and then retry." Some help would be appreciated.

Copied from Hellboy in discord at the start of November:

How to fix Assist Server Manager - Failed to verify vital components

1. Download 7-Zip 4.57.0.0
https://sourceforge.net/projects/sevenzip/files/7-Zip/4.57/7za457.zip/download

2. Extract the archive and grab the file 7za.exe (506kb)

3. If you've run into this error before, you'll have a 1kb 7za.exe in your server manager folder alongside AssistServerManager.exe and AssistServerManager Libs. Replace the 1kb file with the 506kb file you've just downloaded. If not, drop the 506kb 7za file.

Server manager should now be functional.

Unfortunately it now gives me an error saying installation failed at step 1 and I made sure to delete the 1kb
program.

When does it say that? At which step?

Maybe I'm misreading things. But OP doesn't mention server manager anywhere, just the regular client?

I just mean the regular client and it fails at step 1

Navigate to %appdata%\25Assist and place 7za.exe (download provided in Teddy's reply) in this directory.
When that is finished, open settings.dat, scroll down and if you notice a line that reads 'Sourceforge', replace it with 'AAO25.com'.

You're right - I missed that. The specific fix was for the server side setup. I just recalled the specific issue of "Failed to verify vital components" and a solution for it and assumed it'd be the same issue. So that's my bad.

So the underlying issue may be the same, but the exact resolution will probably be different.

I just mean the regular client and it fails at step 1
Sorry for the confusion - I assumed the above fix was for the client and didn't check the details.

You could try what's been outlined in:
https://aao25.com/forum/general-chat-90/fresh-installation/msg109240/#msg109240
(though admittedly the problem seems a little different).
Or you could try downloading from another mirror, see:
https://aao25.com/forum/support/downloading/msg104549/#msg104549

Along with all those, it might just be a permissions issue. You can try running the app as administrator.

None of these solutions work. It just seems that the client won't install anything and I have also tried doing them with administrator mode on. The .bat file also doesn't install anything.
