It is doing some checks to check if you have all the recent files.

It shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes.

If it deosn't finish in 10 minutes or so, you can go to Assist's location and delete LocalFiles.txt
(If you don't know where Assis files are stored, have a look at http://aao25.com/support/#faq )

OK. Let's try to be as specific as we can.

When exactly is this happening?
Is it when you start Assist? Or when you try to join a server?
Could you take a screenshot of the message?

When did this start happening? I'm pretty sure you've played before.

Sounds like you're missing the Libs folder (or it's contents). Do not run Assist from the .zip file, extract the files to your desktop. See how on the Getting Started page:

Try to Run as administrator on 25Assist.exe and see if that works.

Are you running any of these Programs, shut them down:

OscarEditor.exe
Bloody3.exe
Bloody4.exe
Bloody5.exe
XMouseButtonControl.exe

I just tried the windows client for the first time and found the same problem.
Changing the settings.dat file solved the problem.

It's been more than 3 years since the original post of the reported issue, can't this be changes in the source and rebuild the binary?

Thanks!

Well... interestingly enough... I just removed again the installer and downloaded files, re-downloaded the client and now everything is working, no need for workaround.

Great!
