The difference is, sports is just people being competitive. Music and movies are about telling a story with emotional connections you can relate to. Which is why most people have favorite genre's they enjoy. There's a huge difference in being actively competitive versus watching other people being competitive. The latter is useless.

OMG he dropped the ball... OMG he hit the ball... useless.

Well competitive sport playing is calling that way for a reason, now if we were to discuss about practising sports that would be a different matter but i'm not aware of how many actually do play any kind of sport amongst us (i would be the first not raising a hand, i'm not a terrible sport lover but it's just the mix of everyday job and lack of interest that took me off). Sport playing doesn't need to be competitive but just in the measure of what it means to you, accepting yourself and not getting overcompetitive with your own body. Which usually is not a vivid bright border line across.

Since when was entertainment useless? It's fine that you don't like watching sports, but don't call it "useless," because that's just ignorant.

I guess we got to the root of this discussion. Entertainment isn't useless, I agree with you there. Where we disagree is that I think there is no entertainment in watching someone else play competitively.

Yeah but that's subjective and adds nothing to the conversation. I don't get any entertainment out of Rap music, but that is still considered entertainment. Point is, just because one person doesn't fine entertainment out of something doesn't mean it's not entertainment. Everyone is different. To me, it is fun to see such talented people playing a sport I like

IMO, if you like something like that, participate in it. I have nothing against the activity itself it's just that it seems mindless and boring to watch someone else do. Like watching someone paint or a crew doing construction.

There's a lot more action in sports than painting. Stuff happens instantly and it's not all that predictable, especially in sports like hockey. Some sports matches have more intense and suspenseful moments than action or horror movies. Not to mention the imense amount of skill required to play the sport. If someone likes sports, they like watching sports. If you don't like sports, you probably don't like to watch sports, that's what it boils down to. If you don't appreciate the skill and planning it takes to play and coach sports, you won't appreciate watching the sport. You're trying to make it sound like they are boring by comparing it to slow and boring things to watch, which is stupid.

Giving someone positive feedback about their performance is something everyone likes even if they don't say it outright. Maybe this isn't a discussion of watching competitive sports but maybe it is relating to the person you're watching. Maybe you can't be as good as them at something and by experiencing a moment with them, you are them. We love stories of people rising to fame from nothing. So maybe when we're clenched to our seats saying, "can he do it?" we are with them at the moment and share the experience. If you were out there doing something awesome, you would just soak up all the good feel people are throwing at you. Who doesn't like to be told they fucking rock. When we're watching a competitive event (or as you guys have been saying, even watching someone paint), are we watching for the event or is it something else?

Too many things to reply to but it only falls upon deaf ears so I won't put any more effort into this discussion.

I'm late cos I was getting ma beauty sleep but.
1. lol, so your saying anyone with a song is an established musician and you ask why I only listen to them, maybe its cos I the others dont have songs to listen to.
What are you even talking about?
you watch *some hockey team* play hockey, why didnt you watch that team during there professional career in taxidermy? is it because it didnt exist? because I find it hard to listen to music that doesnt exist, the silence gets to me.
Still have no fucking idea what you're trying to say.
2.
to say Jim Carey is better at certain parts then tom cruise because of his training and not his personality is moronic at best, you cant train someone to be a wackjob, thats all skill.
You actually can train someone to act like a wack job. It's moronic to say otherwise.

Again skrewy, what the fuck are you even talking about? You know that banging your hands on a desk can be considered music? As long as it is in a rhythm? You don't have to be in a band or have recorded a song to make music, you're an idiot for thinking you do.
