Problem starting servers(2014-08-12).
« on: Tuesday, August 12, 2014, 03:11:17 AM »
There is an issue that is caused by the shutdown of the Gamespy servers.
Almost all servers, get UDP Restart messages, and it refuses to start.

I've tested to disable all gamespy traffic, and then my testserver started.

What confused me was that 27 servers were online, I have no idea why, perhaps something in their FW setup blocked Gamespy traffic.

I'll post a "fixed" 8.11 server.exe until I figure out the correct way to fix this.

That's really weird that it took 3 months for this to happen.

Someone had said that the remaining servers are Linux-based. Maybe that has something to do with it...

Is it a timeout that happens and it tries again to contact Gamespy?

Here is a temporary workaround:

For Windows:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/aa25assist/files/Binaries/wdedisrv.zip/download

For Linux(Perhaps not needed from what Spanky said, but here it is if needed):
http://sourceforge.net/projects/aa25assist/files/Binaries/ldedisrv.zip/download

Replace the current server.exe(Windows) or server-bin(Linux)

This is only for Server Owners.

I'll post what we we'll do to get a permanent fix in place, as soon as I decide what to do.

Sweet. Thanks for finding a fix so quickly. It was really weird seeing 3/4 of the servers just disappear.

Win server used TCP to connect to Gamespy and send hartbeat, Linux used UDP.
So windows tried to connect and waited for response(Witch never came), while Linux just sent the datapackage and moved on without waiting.

Then that's really interesting that it took this long for it to take effect. Unless Gamespy kept some services running or replied back with an empty response...

*EDIT*
According to Wikipedia:
Quote
In April 2014, Glu announced that it would shut down the legacy GameSpy servers on May 31, 2014, (server termination was extended until July 16)
That's almost been a month though, maybe the Windows-based AA servers just haven't restarted since then.
